Coalition rejects call to audit all Ministers’ property interests

  1. OF course! I mean the stupid public lets them get away with everything because they keep getting voted bacjk in. So why change?

  2. Bit like when the Garda kicked up a big fuss that they were going to be drug tested. The rules and laws should apply to everyone.

  3. Okay, there needs to be a fully independent group for deciding how open public servants need to be.

I read recently that US presidents are “meant” to immediately be put under audit by the IRS. The filings are “usually” made public afterwards.

I believe something similar should apply for all ministers at least, and TDs if we really wanted to keep them honest when voting and proposing legislation.

  4. I’ll just assume they’re all at it and are comfortable to play the odds they as an individual won’t be the next one caught out.

  5. I mean at this point I don’t think it should be 10% audit sample, but 100%, as a minimum act of public service to restore some modicum of public confidence in the farcical establishment that continually shows it a) is unable to fix the housing crisis and b) doesn’t give two shits about what normal people have to deal with because they can do whatever they want

  6. I think they were right. It’s a diversion to create outrage and waste time. Note: I’m not a landlord and I fucking hate people who make money speculating on property; if I had my way the CGT on selling land would be 95% and the tax on unused property or undeveloped zoned land would be punitive.

  7. “Politicians do that on an ongoing basis.”
hence why the ditch need to remind them on a regular basis they didn’t do it themselves…

head in the sand running this country.
