Hi friends. My 10 year old is a very big ice hockey fan and his favourite player is from Denmark (Nikolaj Ehlers). He’s going to a game next weekend and wants to make a sign that catches his eye using Danish words or slang.

Would it have to be Skittles? I’d suggest a more Danish candy instead, for example the hard, salty licorice “Piratos”. You should be able to find them online. It would show some dedication.

You could write “Ork satme Nikolaj, du er IKKE kau! Byt Skittles med din stav?”
Its a bit long, but the first sentence is from his area of Denmark, where they have these expressions.
Ork satme is swearing (but not rude) and where he’s from its like “Wow”, the next is “You’re not bad/weird”. The word kau is only used there, and it will stand out.
The last bit is “Trade Skittles for your staff/stick.”
I think if you could get Piratos, Haribo (not Danish but popular here), or even pork grinds, then you would have something that is somewhat well liked by most Danes from his area.
What would your kid like to say to him? I will translate it to Danish for you 😊
“Dyr Dyr skal vi byt” – means “honk honk, you wanna trade” – as far as I remember it from a kids rime, everyone should know about this in DK. Good luck!
