Send them somewhere in need of regeneration. Adjust their pay downwards to account for the reduced cost of living. Turn Westminster Palace into a museum. Win-win.
Ideal place for House of Lords is museum, spot right next to monarchy in this very small room called “not stolen from the other countries”.
The greatest test of an ideal, do you feel so strongly you’d go to Blackpool to vote for it
Edited- there is no greatest teat I’m sorry to disappoint
Aren’t they appointed experts now, so many are probably working and living in London. Great idea if they can travel though.
they don’t need to be anywhere these clowns.
Just abolish this retirement home for useless polititians.
Certain elements of the house of lords are indefensible aka the life peers and bishops.
But I think it does fulfill a role regarding experts in specific topics.
Oh, I see those in charge are still re-arranging deckchairs on the Titanic.
I guess we’d thin out a few of the portlier MPs if the state opening meant they had to saunter their way from Westminster to Blackpool behind Black Rod before things started…
> He said it would be “an opportunity to bring law-making closer to the people who are most affected by those laws”.
But the House Of Lords don’t make the laws, they only scrutinise them. He knows this. It he truly wants to “bring law-making closer to the people” then he should purpose moving the House of Commons.
I thought Blackpool was starting to be gentrified anyway but if this happened it would have more than just a glow up
Also, good proximity to Lytham St Anne’s aka god’s waiting room
Sure that taking it “up norf” would be good economy for ter the norf.
Its like curling on out, and saying you should be proud
I’d suggest the best place for the HoL is roughly 5 miles west of Blackpool
He picked a deprived northern town but made sure it was a predominately White one
I mean I agree with the notion of moving them out of London, but Blackpool seems like an especially harsh punishment
