Bono is not for real and will out corporate the corporate man. Jesus, Eamon killing there.
He’s dead right though, that Rattle and Hum, Angel of Harlem phase was a load of ol bollocks. British and Irish bands love going to the States and suddenly trying to become Bo Diddley with that boring blues shit.
I remember watching this live on the night. Nighthawks was a brilliant programme, insightful, funny, always entertaining in an otherwise fairly grey Ireland. They were instrumental in ending Haughey’s career via Sean Doherty revealing that Charlie had sanctioned bugging journalists telephones. Also aired the Sawdoctors N17. I wonder where’s Tania these days.
I remember Eamon saying on the radio that Brian Eno was the most pretentious asshole he ever met and he nearly got into a fight with Michal Jackson’s bodyguards in the shelbourne because the way Micheal was acting with some young lad he had staying with him in the hotel.
He wasn’t wrong. Bono talks a good game about donating to less fortunate countries and we have to do better. Dude got a pile of shares for just joining Facebook, just put in his email address, verified and got extra millions thrown at him when it went public. Promoted the bollox off apple even tho the products are made in China by people on shit wages. He’s the definition of a champagne socialist
Very lucid speaker and not pulling punches. Still can’t forgive him for basically never even questioning Delaney’s era as CEO of FAI. Really poor form from someone so outspoken.
U2 are a good band, they’re not a GREAT band…baby.
Vincent Vega sitting in the corner
Get off the Fence, BABY!!!!!
I have nothing to say on the subject, nope nothing at all
God I would love for a show like this on TV today, so good back then and this was still “Catholic” Ireland.
Absolute breathe of fresh air but I imagine there would be uproar of a presenter having a can of beer in TV nowadays.
As Bono says, in Ireland they have to try and take you down if you’re successful. This was right after Joshua Tree, of course Dunphy had something bad to say.
Nighthawks was a class format, bonus points for noticing Vincent Vega smoking in the background behind Shane.
Loved Night Owls. Would like to see reruns of this. Great time to be alive
Jeez he looks a dinosaur back then too.
Tried reading that U2 book he wrote, was dire, gave up after half a chapter.
Interesting. But why all the R&H hate lately? Decent album. Watchable movie.
brilliant briliant show nighthawks…brought ireland kicking and screaming into the 90s..followed by Eurotrash on Channel 4
Eamonn is a great lad. Anyone who has met him and talked with him will know he is a very genuine, down to earth guy. He is a national treasure.
Dunphy was great. Such an honest, uncompromising voice. He also got U2 down to a tee

I prefer [Henry Rollins’ take ](https://youtube.com/shorts/dOQk6xIiRWA?feature=share) personally
