To be clear, what happened is that Permanent TSB sold a bunch of mortgages to a vulture fund (i.e. Permanent TSB gets cash up front and in return all the future mortgage payments to to the vulture fund), and one of them happened to belong to English. He had no part in the decision. But the headline is deliberately written to trick people into thinking that he’s turning fat profits by selling stuff to the vulture fund.
Is there an article to be written about how he was in arrears in the first place? Sure. An article written about his conflict of interest trying to protect people in arrears while being in arrears himself? Sure. But that’s not what this headline is trying to do.

Is there not something preventing you from being a TD if your in financial difficulties.
In my own job all interests need to be declared and I need to approach my job if I’m facing issues due to the increase liklihood I might take a bribe.

As in, after this a very sizeable dumbfuck portion of his constituency’s electorate will vote for him next time, just like with crooked Lowry down in Tipp. He’ll then have his image laundered, will be quietly ‘rehabilitated’ and inserted into some committee or other and before long he’ll be back front and centre. Same with Troy. Same as it ever was. Rules are for ordinary folk.
