Now that what i call taking back control :))
Against these “protesters” yeah, I agree. They only waste time and surely the owners of the long queue of cars they make will happily change their mind about the environment
Protests and demonstrations are an integral part of the building and communicating of a shared popular will between elections, which is important to prevent the state from becoming an electoral autocracy. The people don’t elect temporary kings, they elect representatives to exercise portions of their sovereignty in their stead. And while it is certainly part of that job to smooth out the more tumultuous waves in the sea of public opinion, it cannot be fully or even largely ignored without these representatives forsaking their implicit and often explicit promise to the people.
Not to mention that this:
>The new amendment would also give police the power to shut down protests before any disruption even occurs.
Is literally just a blanket power to shut down any protest ever. Irregardless of what one thinks of the groups this is supposedly meant to target, it should be pretty damn obvious this is dangerous as hell.
As well, mind you:
>The head of London’s Metropolitan Police Service, Mark Rowley, also issued a statement, in which he made clear that the police had not asked the government for more powers to curb protests.
When *the goddamn police of all people* don’t think the executive needs more powers to implement, then you know you’re going too far many times over.
As is planned:

Public disruption should in itself be a crime. Protest all you want but don’t hold up traffic.
This is very similar to current Russian laws.
They have brought it upon themselves.
I don’t imagine anyone wants to prevent people having public gatherings to make their feelings known. However if it causes disruption to other people, who are just trying to go about their business, then that is going too far.
