Met investigating 800 officers over abuse claims

  1. Just one hit after another for people’s confidence in policing eh. Rapist and murderer then a serial rapist now we find out 800 officers are being investigated for sexual and domestic abuse.

Yeah not a great look there for the met.

  2. ‘Two retired Met officers who dealt with a 2002 allegation of assault and harassment against Carrick may have committed misconduct, but as they cannot face misconduct proceedings, the IOPC decided it was not in the public interest to take further action.’

I’m sure the two retired officers are enjoying their Police pensions now, no repercussions or accountability for them.

  3. And they wonder why conviction rates for sexual abuse are so low. Because no one trusts the police to not be abusers themselves.

  4. Is anybody surprised? Predominately male, mostly between the ages of 25-50, it’s the sort of profession that’ll attract somebody with power and control issues, it’s not particularly well paid so it’s not attracting our best…apart from the clergy, I can’t think of a profession likely to have a higher concentration of sex criminal. Maybe security?

  5. Time to teach kids not to listen to police officers then, probably safer going with the nonces because at least they get arrested sooner than the police.

  6. It’s quite natural for positions of power to attract psychopaths, unfortunately, and hence the requirement for close scrutiny of any unscrupulous conduct… I mean, didn’t we learn with Catholic priests – so trusted in our community that we would leave all kids with ’em all morning and nobody would dare insinuate anything? Who would love such authority and privilege? This is no different from politics also attracting the more narcissistic – people who enjoy power and feel special.

My point, anyway, is the Met needs to examine their internal procedures obviously, but I do think it’s an international phenomenon of the power structure in any society… What is the rate of USA police officers who’ve been convicted as serial killers?

  7. I’m a serving police officer. I know that these articles generate a lot of questions and misconceptions about policing, the culture, misconduct processes, etc, so I’m happy to answer any question I can honestly.

Obviously I’ll answer genuine questions, however critical, but I won’t respond to plain abuse.

  8. They mostly exist to protect the interests of the rich and powerful and to maintain the status quo in their favour. Believing the police are there to protect the common people is incredibly naive. What we’re they doing during the miners strikes for example? Notwithstanding the fact that positions which allow additional powers, freedoms and the use of excess force attracts nobheads like flies to shite. Nothing surprises me with this class traitor scum.
