I was in Portarlington a few times in the last few weeks.
Once I asked for directions from a barber and he told me the building I was looking for, it didn’t open for an hour so he went off and brought back a coffee for me without saying anything. Just left me with it and headed off.
Everyone in the town was nice. I had a bit of dinner and did a bit of shopping.
It was such a lovely little place I thought I’d mention it. There’s alot of moaning here but Irelands great, Portarlington still has alot of independant shops and all that stuff.
It’s Tayto…and I’ll fight anyone who points out that his name is “Tito”….
It’s actually the cinema that Into the West was filmed in, I just learned, deadly.
I live in Portarlington and was there the day the artist finished the painting, some of the cast from the film were there to meet and greet the locals, I think it was like a 30 year anniversary of the film
AFAIK the inside of the cinema is filled from top to bottom with old tyres, could be wrong though, pity if it is cos it would be nice to have a little cinema in the town or even something like a youth club for the kids from the area.
Tayto!!!
