  1. They opened a food shop in our snall town centre about six years ago. I thought it would last ten minutes as it’s not a rich area. Nope, still going strong now. And prices of basics are no different to Tesco, which is the main, slightly out of town shop.

  2. Very interesting, considering how many town-centre stores they’ve been closing down recently – and in the case of Stockport, a bit strange considering that one closed only a few years ago, and they’re now intending to open a new one there.

  3. gees M&S is all over the place. Last I heard they were closing large stores, and opening more Simply Food ones.

This seems to go against that. I half decent Christmas and they do a total 180.

  4. They are great for food and menswear. They just need to sort out their womens wear and they will be sorted, as that seems to be people’s biggest complaint about the brand.

  5. Claiming Lakeside as a new store is a bit cheeky. They already have one of the anchor stores in the shopping centre, they are just moving to the old Debenhams store.

  6. I do wonder whether as food prices increase we might not see a general higher average quality, since the margins just aren’t worthwhile anymore for producing most of the cheapest stuff.

This is largely the case in Switzerland. Your weekly shop is very expensive, especially if you want meat, but general quality even if you’re being stingy is high.
