Olympic Games to remain free to air on BBC up to 2032

  1. So annoying that they haven’t got the full coverage again. I’m going to have to subscribe to Discovery because it just isn’t the Olympics unless I can watch all the obscure sports. It really should be protected and I feel like the Olympics are shooting themselves in the foot a bit, allowing it to be put behind a paywall again.

  2. It’s NBC which drives the Olympics broadcasting bus. Warner & EBU are in second place. Broadcasters such as the BBC are offered only crumbs unless, of course, they choose to pony up.

  3. Shame as I think itv or channel 4 could’ve done a better job. Negotiating iplayer was a chore.

Saying that you can watch full free live replays on the Olympic website/app. I think they showed up after they’d finished?

  4. Fuck discovery

Most people I’ve spoke to don’t even know that discovery plus the shite service you need to watch what was once free to all even exists

  5. Yeaaaaaah, surely, that is worth the TV license protection racket. It should be free anyway because of the nature of the olympics. Locking it behind paywals will just turn people away from it.

That and will the BBC even have TV channels by then?

  6. Last time was very odd indeed on the BBC so I won’t bother again. While the subscription to Discovery probably wouldn’t break the bank it misses the point of watching the Olympics for me.

I think it’s what would happen if Wimbledon (mostly) went off the BBC, I just wouldn’t bother watching at whatever streamer got the full package.
