Police to get new powers to shut down protests before disruption begins

  1. Strikes? *Ban them.*

    Protests? *Ban them*.

    Dissent? *Ban it*!

If we make unhappiness illegal then the people shall have no choice but to be happy. Absolutely no disruption can be permitted in this free, democratic, and liberal country. All hail the State (and if you don’t, that’s a 5-year suspended sentence).

  2. Just Stop Oil, extinction rebellion, I’ll bet money these groups are controlled by the security services. It’s all way too convenient . JSO painted the front of MI5.. lol.. like, really, come on. ER protested inside the houses of commons, somehow beating security.. yeah, right.

Sufficient laws exist already for protest on highways. The police deliberately didn’t deal with the road protests, it was blatant. These groups are just being used to justify ridiculous new powers – look at the stuff too like the online harms bill.

I think the establishment is anticipating the need to quell unrest in the near future.

  3. Awesome. Strikes being limited, protests being even more curbed.
Won’t be long before we aren’t allowed to say anything negative about the glorious leader.

  4. The stupidity of people who support this, the entire premise of protests is to be inconvenient and disruptive.

  5. “The right to protest is a fundamental principle of our democracy, but this is not absolute.” Rhisi Sunak.

A principle is a belief that guides behaviour but has only moral authority behind it, not legal. I suppose its just a coincidence that they are currently repealing the human rights act as we speak. Totally unrelated.

  6. Jail for a peaceful protest, but they never caught the people who flew the drone over Gatwick… You’re incentivising some bad things here

  7. They have powers like this in Russia, mr putin hasnt had any real theats from his people in decades because of it. the tories watch this kind of policy with salivating mouths, dreaming that they too can be so safe from consiquense.

  8. Take away the right to peaceful protest and you’ll get violent protest.
violent protest and civil unrest are grounds for martial law, thereby allowing government to “temporarily” suspend all other civil rights including right to legal counsel and the right to be judged by ones peers (jury)

its the next phase of fascist totalitarianism.
you push the dogs into a corner until some of them bite the hand that feeds. Then putting them down becomes “justifiable and necessary action”

if you thought north korea, the ccp and putin’s treatment of their people is bad, just give the tories another year.

  9. Tory cunts: *Why is no one very happy with our government? I specifically made it illegal to show discontent!*

  10. Why are we not fighting this? Why is everyone just sat at home drinking tea? They’re literally going after our freedoms, after already taking out our ability to heat our homes, get healthcare and be paid a decent wage.

Really starting to worry that this country doesn’t have a breaking point.

  11. If ever you need proof of a fascist state look at how they treat protesting and dissent.

The conservatives are essentially a fascist party now

  12. There we go, the national strike is happening so they’ve found a way to make it not happen. As a country let’s learn this lesson to never announce the date of a national strike, just keep it quiet amongst the unions/workers and announce it a matter of hours before or just surprise them on the day instead. Then they can’t prepare by passing anti protest laws.

  13. I’ve always been jealous of the French and earnestly wish we had our own bastille day at some point in history

  14. Even in China the laws are less draconian than this. The Tory party truly are the party to subjugate the people’s freedoms.
