Ben ik de enige die denkt dat dit waarschijnlijk weinig indruk maakt?

  1. If he says nothing, people will call him spineless. If he says something, people laugh at him. He can never win when it comes to international security issues.

Nonetheless, Belgium has a veto on actions relating to the Common Foreign Security Policy as an EU member state. Also, it has a de facto veto in NATO decision-making. So yes, in that sense his statement does carry some weight. Especially because he’s basically stating what the EU/NATO consensus would be at the moment.

  2. Dit is het perfecte moment voor een invasie. Europa ligt op apengapen, interne strubbelingen a volonte, omnicron en een gigantische afhankelijkheid van Russisch gas.

  3. I see a lot of people on social media making fun of this, with humorous intent or not. But you have to remember that Belgium is a member of NATO and that this statement is symbolic of the alliance’s unity towards Russia.

If it turned out some members weren’t vocally supportive of defending Ukraine or taking retaliatory actions (meaning they probably don’t agree with the EU’s or NATO’s stance), it’d be music in Putin’s ears. It would mean there’s division that can be exploited.

Imagine if some other countries the size of Belgium also didn’t vocally support the EU’s and NATO’s line – I’m thinking Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, Latvia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland and Lithuania. Suddenly, Putin’s glasses would be more rose tinted when looking at Ukraine.

  4. This temporary government joker thinking he can realpolitik with the likes of Putin.

Dunno what particular qualities Ukraine has to offer that we could make use of, doubt it’s anything worth spending blood or money on.

  5. They will send politicians from groen to russia to totally fuck up that country too.

  6. ‘k Heb het al eens gezegd en ‘k gaan het nog eens zeggen: als onze Vladimir wilt staat die op 2 dagen op de Grote Markt in Brussel..
