Applying, joining before war, and living up the the requirements of the other members.
There is nothing wrong with the statement, but it would have been a completely different world for Ukraine to be a nato member before all this.

I don’t think it mattered what time you did it. Maybe if we tried in 2010 or something Russia may have just invaded then.

Its widely accepted that Russia deliberately compromised Georgias and Ukraines territorial integrity to prevent them from joining NATO.
Now we can speculate about NATO taking them in, but I think it is very likely it would always have come down to countries willing to intervene before these countries would have entered NATO due to Russia pulling the same stunt it did in Georgia.
Every country including Finland had this chance to step up and did not take it anyway, for one specific reason and it would always have been there.

It could have, but also could have triggered a larger scale war, a world war.
Nato membership is simply a formality that the nuclear powers within nato agree to protect you from other nuclear powers.
If they wanted to protect ukraine now, they could just do that.
The only conclusion is that nuclear weapons are necessary for a country to avoid being attacked.
Obviously. Despite all the rhetoric about being at war with NATO, Russian wouldn’t have the balls to do so in reality. Just goes to show you, if you neighbor Russia better join NATO asap.
