In my mid sized town the residential ones go off at 01:00 now and it can be terrifyingly dark.
I’d like more places where crime is low enough to allow it to do the same. There is incredible amounts of light polution
What you do in summer should be different from mid-winter I suggest.
Why when they were replacing the lights with LEDs did they not put in heat sensors and Wi-Fi connectivity then lights could be intelligently turned on/off when required and net net the cost of the wifi/sensors/intelligent controls would have been paid back in a year. This would keep people and cars safe whilst dramatically reducing costs and light pollution
I hear that in the US they are even trialing changing the colour of street lamps when emergency services are called to speed up response times. A little fore thought could have saved a ton of money for decades
Probably an idea suggested by the police, to make it easier for them to turn a blind eye to the everyday crime here
Alarmist Headline – I’ll save you the click.
Council plans to switch off half of their streetlights midnight and 6am.
They already switch off a quarter of them anyway, so would in effect increase the number of lights off between these times from 25% to 50%.
