Journalist ordered to vacate home over nearly €50,000 in unpaid rent

  1. I expected some dirt on the ditch crew to be dug up by the indo pretty quick. Didn’t see that though.

If I had to pay near 3 grand a month in rent to live in saggot I would be trying to burn Fine Gael to the ground too

  2. Is this Irish Independent’s way of getting back on the lads from breaking those few stories on “we’re on the ditch”. 😏😏

It’s the stories like this that result in “some” people try similar tactics of not paying rent, and why some small landlords (as in not vulture funds or landbastards) have an inherent fear of staying in the industry.

  3. Alright, I’ll bite. Who’s charging nearly 3k a month for a house in drury Mills in Saggart?

Christ am I that out of touch, I thought somewhere that out, with over an hr on the luas wouldn’t be as expensive as that. Is it a 6 bed 😂

  4. >Judge Marie Quirke ordered Mr Shortall and his wife to vacate the property within seven days and pay the €49,632 in arrears.

Ahh….so pay what you owe & fuck off, kind of deal? Not saving much there.

  5. Two things stand out. One that it’s clearly a find who owns his property so they have the team to sue him and two I was wondering when members of the the Ditch would start to appearing in headlines after their recent political exposes.

  6. So after two years of living rent free does he just get fucked out? Doesn’t owe anything? Won’t have the company coming after him for the 50k?

  7. And people wonder why landlords are leaving the market in their thousands. Judicial system is broken if a tenant can remain in a property without paying/partially paying rent.
Government are 100% at fault for allowing this situation.

  8. €2750 a month rent.

Owed €33,818 6 months ago, owes €49,632 today.

That means they had been paying €115 a month.

“I withheld a percentage of the rent” is a little bit of an understatement.

  9. Good game: What would The Ditch’s headline have been if this was a journalist of the independent and the ditch were reporting on it?

“Journalist who attended lunch with Fine Gael TD in 2008 benefits from below market rental payments to fund”

  10. I pay my rent every monday. Each bank holiday monday at 9.05am without fail – my landlord rings demanding to know where his money is.

  11. It’s gas how uncovering government corruption results in the tabloids getting their revenge. Obviously with a misleading headline, they don’t even care about their own articles or their contents.

  12. How sad is it that some people would get enjoyment from finding dirt on a journalist that exposed corrupt politicians,

make ye wonder how politicaly aligned most of ye are..

And before ye start a tenant can legally hold back rent if there are issues with the property, its the whole point we have these courts and goin by the article he has agreed to repect that court judgement..

    Edit: He can’t legally withhold
