Is it true that Rasmus Paludan wanted to burn the Quran “again” in front of the Turkish embassy on Saturday? If it is, what does this man have to do with the quran? I searched in Swedish sources, but I couldn’t find any correct news and wanted to ask you

  1. Attention probably combined with what he said “to show Erdogan we have freedoms of speech and freedom to demonstrate” after he critizied it last week

  2. He’s just a tit trying to stir up controversy around islam by provoking muslims as much as he can and then go “look i told you muslims are bad” when some inevitably react. And yes afaik he’s going to do it. And i dont know why he’s bringing up islam in swedish turkish nato negotiations, i am guessing it’s just to get some publicity again.

  3. He just likes to burn qurans and get attention. It’s fine if he wants to burn books he owns but he gets far more attention than he deserves.

  4. It’s interesting though how Muslims actually become offended by this. If they just wouldn’t care, he wouldn’t do it anymore.

Like, if he’d burn a bible, he’d be alone and no news would be reported.

  5. Its just Paludin being Paludin.

Burning the quran as a way to express freedom of speech is his “thing” and he probably thinks that he can get publicity by attaching himself to the NATO controversy between Turkey and Sweden. And considering how thin-skinned Erdogan seems to be he will probably succeed.

  6. The price of electricity is higher than usual in sweden just as throughout all of europe. We take any measure we can to heat ourselves a little.

  7. What he does with his own book is nobody’s business. So if he wants to burn his own Koran, absolutely no one should stop him.

Here we have freedom of expression and freedom of demonstration. So what does it matter if he now burns a book u/turkisblunder ?

  8. I think he likes to upset people. What he does isn’t illegal, but he likes it when humans tries to protect their omnipotent God…who should be able to protect itself from insults?

  9. *what does this man have to do with the quran?*

Absolutely nothing. He simply wants to provoke. My guess is that he wants a response in the forms of violence and protests, in order to use this as a starting point for discussions regarding integration, immigration, and whatnot.

  10. In a world where you can get hacked to death for insulting Muhammed or burning Quran, it is important to burn Quran to let everybody remind that burning a book is not an excuse to do riots or hack other humans to death.

  11. This is a question about freedom of expression. In Sweden, you’re allowed to deface any literature, as long as you own the copy. What Paludan is revealing is that there is a large portion of the population that would rather limit their own freedom of expression than allow Muslims to get offended over a book.

Why he’s chosen the Quran is because of the reaction he gets which only proves his point. If he did the same with the Bible or the Torah, he wouldn’t get any reaction, since most of those people respect swedish law enough to let him do that. But many Muslims don’t respect swedish law, which is exactly the problem.

  12. It’s his book, he owns the book, it’s his private property. It’s noboy elses business what he does with it. Even if it’s the quran, it’s still his copy of it and still his private property and he can still do whatever he wants with it. This includes burning the book. Even if it’s the quran.

  13. TLDR, far-right politician who doesn’t like Muslims, runs a party in Denmark and one in Sweden, he burns Qurans every now and then in Muslim-majority areas to incite violence so that he can point and say “look, see how violent they are!”. Works almost every time.

  14. He wants to prove that Muslims will go nuts if he does it, and he argues that that kind of behaviour does not belong in Europe

  15. He burn qurans for attention and to show that many muslims in Sweden have a hard time of accepting free speech. As long as muslims continue to give him attention he will not stop.

  16. He is using it as a tool to communicate his views that muslim groups are more or less anti-democracy because burning holy scripture is protected by our laws. So it is a provocation act because he knows a lot of people will react and “prove his point”.

  17. He just proves the point that burning a book of fairytales makes the fanbase go crazy and burn down the town and attack the police. Remember the J.R.R. Tolkien riots ? Uhm No ? Maybe Because his fairytale was not aimed at people who mainly cant read.
