+74 CHF because “Switzerland”. Same product, same website (ospreyeurope.com), one is selecting Switzerland as country, the other Germany/EU

  1. They don’t have a presence in Switzerland so it’s expensive for them to service our market outside of the EU single market.

They have to handle customs, taxes, currency exchange, fluctuations in exchange rates… not to mention product exchanges, replacements and warranty claims across the border, etc.

All this adds up quickly for any small business, it’s not just shipping to another country, there’s much more to it.

  2. Not because “Switzerland”. Because “Not in single market”.

Try picking the UK as Lieferort, see what happens to the price?

  3. Swiss brands do this, too. I bought my On running shoes for 70EUR in Italy. They were discounted, but the initial price was nowhere near the 190CHF on the swiss website

  4. Have them sent to one of these businesses near the swiss border in Germany that offer german addresses to swiss people

  5. Did you check transa outlet ? They have those backpacks too would be intresting to see what they charge.

  6. I never ship anymore to CH, but I’m lucky in that I have family in Germany. It’s a total rip off, customs takes too long, the shipping fee is absurd and doesn’t make sense- and you pay on top import tariffs like 40 chf admin fee to check the package sometimes.

I bought an aarke in Sweden for 120 chf less than what I would have paid in CH. ON shoes? Buy them from shopbop- cheaper and comes from USA. They also take care of the customs crap.

Too many examples like this. I needed vitamins, checked the pharmacy- 30 chf for 50 tablets. Checked online- 5 chf for 75 tablets (iHerb). It’s just a blatant rip off because ‘Switzerland’.

  7. This kind of discrimination (aside from shipping cost) is actually illegal now if they want to sell to Switzerland. See Swiss Geoblocking Ban 2022:

Not that the ban seems to work though – but in theory you can fight it.

  8. I find many website don’t update exchange rates so maybe this is the case. Shipping is also more expensive for them and have to manage customs, etc.

Check toppreise, I don’t want to make publicity but there was one seller with a cheaper price and free delivery.

  9. prices are a agreement between what the company is willing to charge and what the costomers are willing to pay.

People in Switzerland just dont mind paying more.
Also we earn 3 to 6 times more

  10. For electronics it’s the other way around. They probably have to pay import as they don’t have an office here.

  11. It’s the same thing with books. In the Payot bookshop you can find French editions that say 3€ and the price tag in Swiss francs is 7+ CHF.

  12. Ever looked at the labels in C&A or H&M where the various prices are listed?

    10 eur
    10 gbp
    23 chf

My kid wanted something in Tallyweil recently and the ticket was only in EUR, 19.99 .. The lady scanned it at the desk and it came up 29.99 chf.. No thanks

  13. Depends on the company i guess.

I’ve bought a Burton jacket in Budapest in an official Burton store. Same price as in the Flagship Burton store in Zurich.

  14. We didn’t want into the EEA but chose basically EEA with all the same rules but no access to EEA, hence all the “Papierlichriäg” when you order from the EU/EEA. Well, we did manage to protect the interests of our general importers with that.

  15. The best example I’ve found is a brand of office chairs that manufactures in Switzerland, and sells on Amazon Germany for 60% of the price than in Switzerland.

  16. Most basic stuff… Lindt chocolate bars. Prices recently went up to 3.20 from 2.95 francs. At least Swiss chocolate should cost Les here, right? Not really.

I bought some for 2.65 euros in Spain – well, actually they were on sale for 1.99 but leave that aside – the same bars produced in Kilchberg that here are sold for more, plus the shipping costs.

  17. I have a friend that, each year, goes to vegas and buys clothes/suits. He calculates the prices beforehand and at a certain threshold (cant remember but something like CHF 3500.00) it is actually worth it to just FLY to vegas and buy your suits there, compared to shopping in CH.

  18. This is why Amazon is a good thing. It’ll be cheaper on Amazon DE delivering to Switzerland than Germany.

I’m the only one in my block who uses Amazon. Everyone else seems to use Galaxus which is just way too expensive. It’s almost like price doesn’t matter as long as it’s Swiss *shrugs*
