I didn’t see it in the story, but did the government order sub-standard kit, or did the supplier screw up?
If the latter, then not a single penny of taxpayer money should be going towards destruction and the supplier should simply eat the costs.
If the former, then whomever signed off on the orders should be sacked for gross incompetence.

And yet if a pensioner was accisently overpaid heating allowance HMRC would send the cops round to bust the door down to arrest them for benefit fraud. This country is a disgrace.

Assuming of course that it even qualifies as waste since there are plenty of places which dont have the same health and safety standards as the NHS who would happily pay to have it transported to them if they got the stuff itself for free.

Baroness Mone might become a sacrificial lamb but we have lost billions as a result of MPs recommending people for the fast track scheme without any proven experience in procurement or medical supplies. It is a scandal that should sink a government, instead we will only see companies increase their donations to the Tories in return for the record profits they would have recorded.

Was once on-board HMS Scott playing mother-ship to Nato mine squadron (9ships/500men); & our rubbish compartment was unsurprisingly overflowing after 2 weeks.
We unloaded it, at anchor off Izmir, onto Turkish barges contracted to take it ashore & dispose of it correctly in accordance with international law.
Next day, weighed anchor & headed alongside; a large black plume of thick smoke rose from the dockyard. It was all of our rubbish, heaped on a pyre & soaked in petrol. The purser had payed a fortune to have it ‘disposed of environmentally’.
It’s reassuring to know that our government have the same styles of attitude as Turkish Dock workers: Fuck the customer, fuck the planet, fuck working for a living. $$ bill y’all
So basically average Tory voters are happier to see money burned than they are to see it spent on asylum seekers. Gotcha.
