Government to announce law banning ‘conversion therapy’

  1. This week is going to be full of trans topics:

    * Conversion Therapy Ban

    * Monday we have the Trans Wait Times lawsuit ruling

    * Scotland Gender Recognition Bill and it being denied Royal Ascent (by 19th)

    * The potential government guidance / ban on trans people in sports.

    This is going to get really messy and just feels like we are a political tool.

    I hope a majority of the above go well for us, but there is so much uncertainty, i just want some actual good practical news for trans people for once.

  2. This gonna be where they block the Scottish Bill, but then ban conversion therapy so they can say “we do care, really”?

  3. Well it’s a pleasant surprise to hear them including trans conversion therapy in the ban too. I guess they don’t want to appear purely spiteful given their recent behaviour.

  4. Well I’ll wait till its passes, but finally its terrible that’s still legal up to this point, even if it doesn’t really happen.

  5. Shame it has taken this long. It might be a smaller problem here than it is elsewhere, however that does not mean those few who are subjected to it or who are at risk of it deserve any less protection. It does not work and only makes things worse for the person subjected to it, it has no place in a decent society.

  6. This is good news. Especially in the current terfy climate, but I still have concerns for LGBTQ people.

    This may also open the discussion about ABA therapy for people with Autism, which was developed by the same person who developed gay conversion therapy, and is equally as cruel.
