I don’t understand how you can get on a plane with a passport and arrive in Ireland without one and be allowed into the country.
It’s stupid.
Bit late – FG also keep providing amnesty for illegal immigrants every few years. Almost 10k last year.
As someone who came here from outside the EU, jumped through hoops and only after that got residence it really pissed me off that someone who broke the rules, kept appealing in courts while staying in Gov funded accommodation got the same outcome as me.
Why bother following the law anymore
Require airlines to record the passport number and country that issued the passport, and hand it over on request. Or regard ditching your passport as obstruction of the asylum process and act accordingly. Someone with a legitimate asylum claim will be bursting to validate their story when seeking asylum. Not trying to obfuscate it

This is entirely down to the protests that have been happening lately in Dublin.
People here can moan about them all they like but it’s clearly been an effective method to drive needed change.
Could passport officials board planes from countries where this happens a lot and check passports before anyone disembarks? No passport, no getting off, and it’s the problem of the country the plane flew from?
They definitely need to do something about it.
Plane manifest would have the details.New passport issued and sent back within a week.
Government need to be firm here. The jumped up eternal students who prowl twitter will criticise the government for being FAAR ROIGHT but procedures need to be out in place in order to make this can’t happen.
We are very much welcoming of people seeking genuine asylum and refugees fleeing war but we just can’t take in hordes of economic migrants currently as our infrastructure can’t cope. A genuine plan with getting migrants into work where have shortages and planned housing is needed.
Just make it a crime to not have your passport when you disembark. If they still want to, they can apply for refugee status while in a cell in a detention centre near the airport.
Going to need to start handing over passports when you get on a flight and get them back when you land.
So, a meeting of a parliamentary party hearing about an issue is news. Seems like the announcement of awareness of a problem with very obvious solutions is to garner some credit. Spin.
There is literally not one mention of passports in the linked article and the headline was changed by OP…
