It’s not a tiny house, it’s a caravan. It’s got wheels and is a temporary structure which depreciates. The example cost £100K, will cost in the region of £3/mile to move and has no storage.
I notice they gloss over the water and sewerage aspect other than “mains water hookup is possible”. OK. So how are you getting mains water run out to land without planning permission and how much is it going to cost you? Or it this just an option for people with friends which land who don’t mind running a hose.
Part of me thinks that a council might be iffy when you have mains water and a cesspit installed for your ‘temporary’ residence.
> Tiny house life has the hallmarks of a social movement
Tiny house life has all the hallmarks of a feudal system of land barons and a nomadic peasants class
Hang in there, the reddit brigade informed me house prices will crash soon. Any moment now, steady.
All FTB’ers will afford a detached 4 bed in Richmond, London on a £50k salary :-).
**Boomers:** 1 income family with no degree, owns their own 4 bedroom house, brought up 3 kids with the mum staying at home.
**Millennials or newer:** 2 income couple, can’t afford kids, aspires to maybe own a van one day that they can live in.
This is demoralization propaganda dressed up as something aspiring and a hip solution that is not a solution.
It’s a fucking caravan. You live in a caravan. And once the novelty wears off you’ll feel more trapped than you were before. Plus these super trendy expensive versions are about as sincere as David Cameron’s 25K garden shed. Plus you’ll find this lifestyle is going to be attacked over the next decade – Agenda 2030.
I detest this nonsense. Fucking boils my piss. BUILD MORE HOUSES YOU BASTARDS.
This is some depressing faux aspirational bullshit. “I live in a caravan located on my parents land with my incredibly plain girlfriend”. That’s depressing as fuck, I don’t know why he’s smiling.
Who is going to look at that as their potential future and not immediately want to just give up. Things are hard enough, we don’t need this stupid expectation lowering propaganda.
Can we, for good, stop calling substandard housing as ”homes”- no offence for those who can make the best of them, but lowering housing standards to insane levels shouldn’t be praised, only great efforts of occupants to make it liveable.
Call them what they really are – **trailer parks**.
You can pretty up the idea and appearance of these as much as you like, but these people are living in a bloody trailer park.
