It’s about time. This could’ve been done months ago and given them time to upskill and properly integrate them into their operations. I guess we just had to wait for France and Poland to go first though for some reason.
Ukraine about to field the tank with the best armour and best on-board tea-making facilities in the world.
Should be interesting to see how they stand up against the Russian toys.
now can the other countries follow suit….kick these fuckers back home
A whole new logistics chain for just a dozen tanks would seem problematic…and 75 tonne tanks at that. I see these as publicity and gate guards in Kyiv.
This is and should be a kick up the arse to get more numerable Leopards/Abrams in Ukraine.
I’m not against it, but I thought that sending in offensive weapons was supposed to be a big no-no because it was going to kick off world war three if anyone did.
Guess, they figured that was a slightly unrealistic consequence. Will still be interested to see Russia’s response though.
Honestly I doubt a dozen tanks makes a bit of difference but the objective of this is to shame other countries like Germany into delivering the tanks they promised. Also hopefully the US will provide them with the volume of tanks they actually need.
First Challengers, then Leopards, and finally Abrams, I hope.
We already knew that Putin was a corrupt autocrat with imperialist ambitions.
We already knew that Putin assassinates critics and rules by fear, graft and propaganda.
We already saw the war crimes his army committed in Syria to civilians.
Now it is Ukraine’s turn to be subjected to torture, mass killings and their children taken away into Russia for “holidays”.
For many years the British tried to reset our relations with Russia which Putin answered with contempt and threats and releasing radioactive and then biological poisons in the UK.
Putin has made a massive mistake and the West needs to capitalize otherwise Putin will take what he can then rearm and come back for more.
It is good to see Britain playing a strong role (as usual). Also Poland and the USA. Germany needs to step up!
I am surprised. I assume they will not be equipped with Chobham?
Even if it was already in their mind, it seems like Macron sending light tanks opened a new way to support Ukraine.
For once, it seems like our president has been useful.
Good decision. The UK is doing a lot to support Ukraine.
Send them some jets, helicopters and cruise missiles so they can actually fight back properly. Ground wars are brutal.
Really not sure why I thought of some guy driving a tank all the way to Ukraine, hopping out, then making his own way home back to the UK.
Anything to stop the spread of tyranny. The Russians must be forced into a crippling loss- they send their men off to the slaughterhouse, which just spills mote uneccessary blood. In the modern age of 2023, clearly Putin hasn’t learned the lesson of History.
Imperialism like this should’ve died out last century.
Send all the aid to Ukraine that you can.
I’ll love it when he dies, whether it’s next year or in 20 year. The earlier the better.
Listen people! Would you rather these tanks be abandoned in a warehouse somewhere off in the Wales/European countryside to rot?
Or; actually put to good use where it is needed for what it was intended, primarily to protect the UK, which it will help by protecting Citizens of Ukraine (and European borders)?
Hooray! Military industrial complex lets go go go! Choo choo motherfuckers!
Then blackrock investments will be able to make all the money in the world with zelenksy, dont we all love war!
Wow the people in this sub know a lot about tanks. I’ve learned so much.
I personally don’t know why we are sending tanks, tractors are much cheaper and still get the job done 🤣
This is a push for Germany to allow the sending of their leopard tanks which are used by several other countries and have standard ammo and many countries have spare parts for.
Germany holds the rights to the leopard tanks and won’t allow other countries the rights to send them, however if we, the British send a small amount of Challenger 2’s it’s a sign to push other to put pressure on Germany to release the rights.
When Ukraine has a good 250-300 Leopard tanks they can challenge the russian front line more efficiently and re-tool.
Good job guys! Im proud of you. Greetings from Estonia 🙂
Politics, logistics, training conversation aside, seeing the British MBT doing what it was designed to do: killing Ruzzian T-Tanks on a battlefield it was designed for, is going to be absolutely badass. Proud to British today.
I work in RAF Cargo and this is going to make my life hell for the next few months. I don’t think we even have the ability to send this shit. We’re stretched thin as it is.
not read through all the comments – but are we giving these tanks to Ukraine – or as the Yanks are doing with their equipment selling them equipment which i think comes with hefty price tag to be repayed sometime in the future?
And now Ukrainian generals have to convince the maintenance technicians not to kill them selves after being told they have to learn to repair yet another vehicle, with another set of parts.
All this donated equipment needs to be maintained and repaired. Military’s are effective because of standardization.
Could I borrow one? need to get to the local shops without falling into a mile deep pot hole.
These with the US Bradley’s should be very effective.

Ukrainian tank crews in 10 days time:
[“Hey Mykhayl, hey Mykhayl put the dinosaur down its go time”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BIXFviXtNg&t=1m18s)
Great news.
Hope this pushes Germany forward as well.
