€800 *a month* on electricity exclusive of heating? Guess we know where that €490k in “life savings” came from; your man’s clearly growing more trees than Coillte.

Also, why does a single parent have two car loans? And €1600 total? Fucking hell.

  2. Of all the most click baitey articles, who would have thought money diaries would be the most controversial when it started

  3. >The keyboard warriors will be up in arms about my financial situation but trust me, I don’t think you would want my life. I spent over 10 years working every summer correcting exams, supervising state exams, doing grinds and budgeting tightly

    Oof, what an inspiration!

Not only does he get paid extra for that, it’s not like it’s challenging work. It’s basically time. Whereas a lot of the private sector it’s time & skill.

Teacher: “So how was your day, darling?”

Mechanic: “The worst, I had to have an engine replaced by tomorrow as the customer is coming to collect it, only the engine hoses wouldn’t reach and had to take it out again and replace the hoses. It took an extra 2 hours and it was a cunt to find the right connections….how was your day?

Teacher: “Oh, mine was just as bad, that supervising state exams really took it out of me”

  4. I find these money diaries stupid. They don’t reflect the average person whose barely getting by while trying to save for a mortgage

  5. The thing that stands out to me is that he’s constantly giving his kids Calpol even when they’re not sick. It’s just paracetamol, but you shouldn’t be giving it to children every day

  6. Where are they getting all these youngish people with loads of cash to write these?!
Would be interesting to read one from someone who earns less than a modest income for a change.
