Can I connect a Proximus router to these ports?

  1. Hi everyone,
Recently I had an appointment with Scarlet to fix my internet connection in my new appartement. The website confirmed I had all necessary connections etc. However, the technician told me he could not install the modem because I did not have the right connection.

However, I do have an old Belgacom ‘box’, which seems to me as a connection for the modem, hence internet. FYI, Scarlet is on the Proximus/Belgacom network.

I will include a picture, isn’t this enough to get me decent internet?

  2. There are 3 (+ 4G/5G) ways internet enters your home, this crappy phone cable from Belgacom (old name of Proximus) is one of them. It’s the worst options. Proximus and some others will use it if there is no fiber connection in your home.

A better option is the coax cable (old TV cable), it can reach speeds up to 1Gbps (in theory, it’s mostly limited to upsell you later). Telenet maintains that one, Orange is another provider that uses it.

In recent years there has been a rollout of fiber cable. This is the best option. If you have it in your street, it’s mostly used be providers such as Proximus, EDPNet, and like 2-4 others.

  3. Proximus technician here; yes 🙂 but open it up to see if there’s an actual cable behind there (and connected to the black socket). If the wiring it correct then literally all that has to be done is to plug in an ethernet cable (unless you have a landline, then you need a splitter as well).

So maybe there’s no more free pairs on the cable to get you connected? It seems very strange to me a technician wouldn’t plug in your router otherwise. Or perhaps the cable from the basement to your apartment is damaged? In that case you’d need to get an electrician.

  4. Proximus is shit, telenet is shit, we’re being milked to the standards of American sociopathic grift.
