Philip Hammond says UK needs ‘hundreds of thousands of foreign workers’ to plug gap

  1. I don’t think we need hundreds of thousands of foreign workers.

What we need is liveable pay for people already in the UK and maybe tens of thousands of foreign staff

  2. Hahahaha

Maybe their voters will realise this whole anti immigration thing was a political grift to get them into power. As is with every right wing party. Playing on people’s inherent prejudices but when they actually implement their own policies it damages the economy.

  3. The mythical skills gap. Sick of this dog shit whinging from business and government because they can’t fill gaps.. unless they lower profit margins by increasing wages.

“Got to please the shareholders tho”.. who ultimately, if you trace up the chain of ownership, are giant faceless financial institutions that also make money through fractional lending.

It’s bollocks. The whole system is parasitical.

  4. Canada has set a target for over 500k permanent residents this year, they have half the population of the UK and yet they’re still being more pro active in encouraging immigrants, hell no one in Canadian politics talks about how immigration is a bad thing, and yet here everyone is pretending that the UK is being overrun and that in 10 years we’ll all be speaking Albanian or something, it’s completely divorced from what’s happening in the rest of the world

  5. As someone who supports the working class and wants to fight climate change, i think its great we import masses of people into the country to keep that gdp going up because thats truly what matters most.

  6. The Uk has the lowest productivity in the G7 I wonder why that is oh yeah, is it because we for years the Uk relied on cheap foreign Labour
    Yes, yes it is!

  7. If only we were a part of a community of countries that share finances, resources and allow for free movement between countries for work.

  8. What gap?

Genuinely as the least Brexit person ever? What gap?

This country economic growth has been an artifact of population growth. Growth is caused by more output per person, not more output with more amount of people.

The reality is, this is because what is imported is low income low skill workers suppressing wage rate. Not high productivity doctors, tech workers, or bankers.

If importing workings was the saviour of the UK, we did it. Productivity stagnated. It solved nothing.

It solved nothing but it underlying aim, keeping poor people poor, and making things cheaper for the rich. Tories going to Tory.

What we need is increased wages, leading to automation of the low wage jobs, leading to unemployment of the low skill workers. Then training schemes to make to make them medium skill workers, while also having immigration of high skill workers which cost hundreds of thousands to and years if not decades to train.

Then what you build is a liberal accepting society, that means when the tax rate is 10-15% more and they could be financially better off somewhere else, and the workers go “fuck that I will stay here”, rather than having a cuntry full of Tories where everyone is there going fuck that I will go somewhere else, oh and a 40% pay rise for the effort, don’t mind if I do!

  9. We have known we need migrant labour to keep s going for years now. Why else would the Tories have done so little to stop people moving here for work when they were so anti-immigration in the media? The Tories will never tackle immigration in the manner their voters would like them to because the Tories know it would fuck the country terribly for them to do that.

  10. As an immigrant continuing to work my remote American job from the UK – sure, I’ll start working for a UK company when UK companies pay a competitive wage. Until then, kiss my ass. Equivalent jobs here pay 50% less than my American job. You guys literally can’t afford my expertise.

  11. Aww man! If only there was some… huge continent or something, connected to your country by… some underwater tunnel or something, with hundreds of thousands of skilled workers… who wanted to work in your country before your dumb rich elite funded a campaign to make you cut yourself off from all that prosperity. But just an unsolvable problem, I guess.

  12. Fuck muh GDP.

GDP doesn’t need to continuously grow at the expense of GDP per capita.

Too many people around as it is, immigrant or not, the UK would be a nicer place to live with less people around. Lookup how much we’ve already grown in population since 2000. Did anything get better? Fuck no.

  13. No what we need is a correction in wages so that they catch up with asset inflation.

It’s the only way to solve the current problems in the UK, and until a government grasps this nettle the UK is going to continue to get poorer and shabbier and more broken.

The governments have let people gain vast sums of on paper wealth through asset prices and will not tax the capital gains at the same level as wages, consequently people invest in assets, because why wouldn’t they and the government has a steady supply of loyal voters and can suppress wages, until several cost of living crises all coalesce.

There is no solution until wages catch up with asset prices. When work pays what it should then people will come back to work.

  14. Or we could help people who need medical treatment and enable them to work.

Still waiting for treatment. This country is a husk of its former self. Sigh.

  15. Of course he would say that, he’s a complete WEF some, and the CBI told him their members, all the big corporations, wants an extra 200,000 this year for cheap labour. Can’t wait till they hopefully get destroyed at the next election.

  16. “We refuse to make the businesses that bribe us pay far wages, so we’ll fill those jobs with foreign people we can exploit”

  17. But Brexit voters didn’t want them! Boo bad foreigners coming over here and doing jobs that were necessary that Tory Government lied to you about.” Tory cunts

  18. Ah of course, instead of paying a fair wage, let’s just hire foreigners who will accept dogshit UK pay because compared to their country, they go from nothing to fucking loaded.

Cunts, lot of them, vote these fuckers out next election for the love of god.

  19. Now can we please have a revolution!? Come on mun! Sick of these f#*king corrupt bas#*rds running this country!

  20. Translation: ‘we won’t pay a living wage for these jobs so only poor immigrants who are willing to live 7 to a room will take them’

When did the UK become a slave state that requires cheap foreign labor to do all the work while also making it extremely difficult for workers to actually come here?

  21. Then why make it so hard to get a worker visa? I’d love to work in the UK and finally turn this long distance relationship into a short distance one and move in with my boyfriend.

  22. Decades of a lack of training by companies with their staff has led to this. There’s no lack of people. There’s a lack of people who can do the jobs required.

  23. Orrrrrrr. You could do many other things domestically to increase the number of workers such as subsidise childcare enabling thousands of stay at home parents to enter the workforce.

  24. No it doesnt. It needs proper fucking pay. I wonder how many people dont bother working because its such a waste of time and life

  25. So they’re gonna hire in “hundreds of thousands” of scabs and foreign labour at rock bottom prices to take over for the people who are starving?

**GENIUS, HOW COULD IT POSSIBLY BACKFIRE?** 🙄

    Edit: wording

  26. The UK needs a governing party willing to reconfigure the British economy so that it doesn’t need to import hundreds of thousands or bend over backwards for the sort of people that funded Phil’s party.

We has that chance several times over the last few years and we decided to go the opposite way.

The brass neck of these Tories. It’s like they’re making fun of us to our faces yet we keep putting them in charge.

  27. The only way that we’ll get business owners to modernise and increase productivity is to start squeezing their profits. The only way we can do that is limiting their supply of cheap labour. If they want to take the next step as a business then they need to invest.

  28. We have a desperate shortage of competent politicians, perhaps we could get some foreign workers to fill those jobs

  29. What gap? The wage gap? the UK is dying quickly and more and more British born are turning their backs on the place. All thanks to these politicians that’s do eff all
