Sinn Féin blames Covid for failure to declare €7,000 election expense

  1. That’s independant newspaper all over.

Sinn Fein did declare it. They just declared it later than usual. It was declared a year ago.

It’s now a state propaganda rag.

  2. In fairness… if the person who was responsible for the declaration was dealing with Covid, it’s entirely possible their memory was badly affected… speaking as devil’s advocate.

My dad is dealing with long covid now, and recently forgot his mother’s maiden name. And at another point in the same day, the name of a colleague he has known since before the pandemic, as he was talking to her. That’s just two instances on the same day.

We regularly watch quiz shows as a family, and I’ve seen him forget really basic stuff that I know he knows since getting covid.

  3. 7 grand wouldn’t even pay for the motte around your second home. I miss the Haughey days when politicians could fleece millions in plain sight and buy themselves islands and helicopters. The poor yolks need to be alot sneakier these days.

  4. First there was Robert troy and then Damien English.. Politicians realise that the media are looking at their Declarations and now rushing to put their house in order before the media find out and make a story out of it..

Irresperctive, of whether you think or not, that the independent is protecting Pascal by reporting a look sinn fein are at it too article, Sinn Fein cant sit across the house commenting on FF or FG if their own house is not in order..

I expect a lot of tidying and updating of records to be done in the next few months purely because the media is doing its job of investigating and reporting..

it does show how inept SIPO & the policy of self declaration is though..

  5. The amount of “it’s different when it’s Sinn Fein” cope in this thread is actually amazing.

And, can I just say, it’s MENTAL that Sinn fein would criticise any party over their expenses or donations.

Sure didn’t they funnel that crazy old man’s money into the UK to avoid irelands strict election financing laws.

    You couldn’t make it up.
