Does anyone know if this style of Irish tweed long coat has a particular name?

  1. Ok. The cut is diff maybe cuz it’s handwoven. Mine fits snug and still has the baggy shoulders. There is no cut from shoulder to sleeve. It is one piece of fabric.

  2. That is a (very large) herringbone pattern balmacaan

At least I think, never was entirely clear on what a balmacaan is. I’m pretty sure this is one though

  3. Probably made by Magee in Donegal Tweed for Burberry. Burberry uses many suppliers. It has raglan sleeves, which give it a relaxed sporty look. Raglan sleeves were also favoured by Burberry for their raincoats since they sit well over jackets and have better water-resistance.

I wouldn’t pay $350 unless I could try it on and inspect for stains/abrasions/smells. Also many owners of such coats had the sleeve lengths altered, and previous generations tended to have shorter arms. Nothing is worse in sartorial terms than an overcoat that’s too short in the sleeves.

This style can definitely look great, but I imagine it’a a more European look than American. A good quality ‘fashion’ version is currently available for around $1,200 from [Private White VC](https://www.privatewhitevc.com/products/the-permanent-style-herringbone-donegal-overcoat?utm_term=&utm_campaign=&utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=ppc&hsa_acc=5891097748&hsa_cam=16585845103&hsa_grp=&hsa_ad=&hsa_src=x&hsa_tgt=&hsa_kw=&hsa_mt=&hsa_net=adwords&hsa_ver=3&gclid=Cj0KCQiAiJSeBhCCARIsAHnAzT-_dBE7tUa6V3WhKU7lXCN4OsFH3kFmFsrXgPHI1hFGYwZBXrwamuAaArzJEALw_wcB)
