COVID-19: ‘Each six months will be better than the last’, says chief medical officer Chris Whitty | UK News

  1. With the state of this subreddit you would think each 6 months has been worse than the last….people advising everyone not to go out in other threads. 2 or 3 vaccines down and 2 years later and loads in this sub think that you should avoid living your life anymore, for the foreseeable future.

  2. >he predicted it could be “possibly 18 months” until a wide range of vaccines covers all variants of the coronavirus.

Variants as of now, or the X extra ones 18 months from now? The vaccinations were never going to stop mutations.

  3. All you have to look at is the rate of hospitalisations, and this is pretty self-evident. Just looking at the number of infections, ignoring the other stats and panicking is not rational.

  4. Honestly, I’m quite disappointed and sad. Yes, last five months were essentially normal and I couldn’t care less about masks, but for instance the international travel seems nowhere close to getting back to the old times, with the bans happening again and again. I just hoped vaccines will change things more, partially by hoping people will stop caring once almost everyone is vaccinated (though omicron does look kinda scary so I get why people care about that).
