The Equality Act doesn’t have exceptions because you don’t like dogs or the reasonable adjustment isn’t convenient. It applies whether you like it or not.
I have a disabled relative with an assistance dog, she’s often told me the same thing about what a nightmare taxis can be for her. Time and time again she’s specifically ordered a wheelchair accessible taxi, but so many times the driver will make excuses after he gets there and sees the dog, suddenly claiming that the taxi isn’t suitable for electric wheelchairs after all. It’s always been very obvious that they just don’t agree with having dogs in their vehicles, and much more needs to be done to crack down on it
Muslims don’t tend to have dogs as pets. They’re considered impure.
interesting that that bloke claims he’s blind but by the looks of him he knows exactly where the food is at all times
Are there any protections for drivers who refuse to take passengers with dogs because they are allergic? Not that this guy claimed to be but I’m just curious. If so, why not just say your allergic to avoid any negative repercussions? Still a dick move, but again I’m curious.
Dog in car equals hair on seats. Potentially if allergic, a reaction for the driver and then future passengers.
I get that it’s less than ideal, but you wouldn’t expect that a typical taxi be expected to carry any other pet without question, so not sure why a self employed driver should.
Imo, dogs should only be permitted in cars with appropriate space for the dog. At the discretion of the driver. The emphasis should be on the dog owner declaring the dog on booking the taxi, so that a willing driver can or cannot be found.

My dad got an Uber from a pub home and the Uber driver didn’t say anything about the fact there was only him and not four people and when he realised he’d picked up the wrong person he was going to leave him in the middle of nowhere (a blind man who has a tiny bit of vision in daylight but in the dark can’t see anything) but ended up dropping him back to the pub he left. It was shut but there were still people cleaning up. Dad knocked on the door and they helped him get home by calling him a taxi
It happens a fair bit but drivers expect disabled people to be toothless, so they think they can get away with discrimination in as bold a manner as this. It’s why more needs to be done to give disabled people a platform and to make it known they will be listened to, otherwise it will continue to be easy for people to get away with things like this.
Good. Fine them hard so they learn their lesson.
If it happens again, they lose their taxi license
The company I worked for did this to disabled people a lot and would leave them stranded for hours. I quit Because I couldn’t do that to people.
My husband witnessed a taxi dropping a blind man off in completely the wrong part of Birmingham to where he had asked for. The poor man was understandably very distressed and my husband guided him to a place he was comfortable and recognised. It was clearly intentional on the taxi drivers part, absolutely disgusting.
While easy to hate on Uber drivers it’s worth remembering that they are among some of the worst paid workers in the UK, working highly unsocial hours.
Does that give them the right to be dicks to disabled people? No. But I do have sympathy for them, particularly when factoring in that at the end of the shift they would probably need to pay for the car to be cleaned out of their own pocket.
Very easy for people in better paying, more secure work to cast their judgement.
