I literally only bumped into him in Beaumont mid November visiting my own mother she was recovering from a brain cancer operation, he asked if I’d mind wheeling him down to the lifts.
He was in alright form and chatty enough briefly mentioned his own story of cancer when I mentioned my mam.
That’s so sad. One of the greats.
It’s mad the amount of times over the years that it was only a matter of time for him and he bounced back.
Looks like this is pretty final though 🙁
Sad news.
[Their vicar street gigs](https://youtu.be/ExLzypi1dzE) are some of the best live music I’ve had the pleasure to witness. Probably the closest I’ve come to feeling like I was in a cult because the crowds were always so into it. He had a very unique life, his biography is worth a read.
Very sad. What a voice. I grew up hearing their tunes. Probably the first band I proper loved.
I was lucky enough to be working at their last gig ever. I’d never been a massive fan and never really went out of my way to listen to them.
Well holy hell, what a show. Turns out that I knew quite a few songs of theirs. Christy turned up, went straight on stage and just knocked it out of the park. Great storyteller, voice on point that night, just all-round fun show. When he finished (before everyone else) he took a bow, walked off stage and left for good to rapturous applause. I appreciate that it was because he was obviously ill and needed to go, but it felt like a real showman element. Like something James Brown or Elvis would do. Just turn up the minute he’s needed, have the crowd in the palm of his hand all night and then leave them wanting more. Honestly probably one of my top gigs last year.
Terrible news. We’re losing an Irish music legend.
Belter of a send off for Christy can’t believe he will not outlive Shane McGowan. Powerful voice and made in dublin live at the point was an album of my youth.
Christy is the definition of a natural talent.
Without exaggeration he is easily one of Ireland’s best ever vocalists.
I had the pleasure of hearing him sing the Rolling Stone’s Angie at a small session in a pub. Just rolled in and agreed to sing after a few of the lads started pestering him to sing something.
He’s the kind of singer that lives every word of a song.
Truly awful news. I hope his remaining time is as comfortable and pain free as possible.
I knew his family growing up, so very sad to hear
🥺❤️
Very good episode of the talking bollocks podcast with Christy… seems like a top bloke.
What will happen to the Late Late Show? They’ll have to disband it
Only seen him performing with Aslan in The Old Fort Festival here in Portlaoise back in June. He chatted and had banter with everyone between songs and when he sang he didn’t just sing; he performed. Not only was he an artist; he was a piece of art himself.
Heartbroken to hear he’s in palliative care. Thinking of him and his loved ones ❤️
IlBecause he’s lasted out so many years at this stage, Tbh, I’m immune to hearing the news about him.
Always wanted to see him play 😞
Don’t forget your shovel if you want to go to work… classic.. sad news.
