The doctors at the Saint Mary’s Hospital in Iași managed to replant the leg of the boy hit by a train yesterday in Vatra Dornei. The intervention lasted 13 hours. The team of doctors that performed the operation is the same one that succeeded in replanting Alexia’s hands, the teenager seriously injured in an accident in Pașcani in December.
The doctors entered the operating room yesterday at 2 pm and left at 3 am. After the complex operation, they resumed the replantation of the boy’s left leg, which had been amputated after the impact with the train. The condition of the 15-year-old teenager is critical, he is hospitalized in intensive care, where he is under medical supervision. The boy was brought to the hospital in critical condition, in traumatic and hemorrhagic shock after being hit by the train. He was first taken to the UPU from the Vatra Dornei Hospital, where he was stabilized, and from there he was picked up by a SMURD helicopter and transferred to Iași.
He was consulted at St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital, then sent for further investigation to the Neurosurgery Hospital, as he also suffered a severe head injury. As soon as he returned to St. Mary’s Hospital, and the doctors had all the data on his health, they put him in the operating room. Witnesses say the boy was listening to music in his headphones and was paying attention to his phone when he was hit by the train. Most likely it was a moment of inattention.
