The splendors and miseries of Belgrade

  1. I visited Belgrade a few years back and recently. There was a lot of work being done around the city, both private and public. I was especially shocked by the high-rises in New Belgrade.

Btw, it’s significantly pricier than it was just a few years ago. Like, a 2x~4x increase in cost.

Also, New Belgrade is unlike anything I’ve seen in Europe. It’s very posh, clean, and everything seems newly built. Buildings there were 25 stories high, maybe some were even higher.

In contrast to that, if you went to some old suburbs, the buildings, and roads were really run down.

  2. I’d rather flatten “Belgrade Waterfront”. Only good thing that came out of that one was the rebuilding of the cycling path along the river. The old one needed repaving badly in some spots.

  3. Beautiful city, Belgrade. And I appreciated the serb too, so lively. But this was about 10 years ago … I don’t k ow what has changed in between.

  4. There are no “miseries” here, a 40m2 house in that area cost 450k euros, which is more than in the Waterfront because whoever decides to build anything in that prime land will have to pay a lot of money to anyone there.

Both sides are extremely lucky to live where they live.
