He used to visit Malta quite frequently as a teen (some friends of mine knew him at the time), so I’m guessing he knows some basic phrases.
I don’t think he can speak much Maltese but he can surely understand it.
The guy is a fraud. He made a big fuss on how many languages he spoke when invited on liberal media. He never once mentioned Maltese and he plays down his surname preferring to be called mayor Pete like he has experience though this was a place so small no one knows where it is.
The timing of his entry in the political race was also timed as an advance guard, he never was a serious contender. Has made a name for himself as an artful dodger, never answering any question they give him.
Are we supposed to care?
The Maltese voting block in the US will never be significant, so don’t expect any favours on his road to political insignificance.
As for his just going by Major Pete, the right in the US is taking on his being gay as “Mayor Butt-Gig” so, it’s understandable.
