Expected Years in Retirement of Countries and Dependent Territories in Europe 2020/22.

  1. Turkey is quite unexpected. That’s one hell of an early retirement age for a country with that kind of economy. Though I suppose there aren’t as many jobs where you can actually work into your 60s as in e.g. Germany.

  2. UK statutory retirement age is 66 for the next few years, 67 for gen X and 68 for millennials/gen z at the moment.

Weirdly it even correctly states this in the mapmaker’s source but for some reason it’s 62.5. I can only assume they are using the old ages of 65 for men and 60 for women and averaging them.

  3. The UK figure is definitely wrong or they’re not comparing like with like in this set of data.

The UK state pension age is there is currently 66. You can retire earlier on a private pension, but that also applies in plenty of other places too and is a private matter.

There’s also no statutory retirement age in the UK, just an age when you can claim a state pension.

Also the current Tory plan seems to be to increase it beyond 66 from 2026, and move to a work ‘till you drop type culture.

  4. So is this a simple difference between Life Expectancy and Retirement Age? Or is it Life Expectancy **at Retirement** vs Retirement Age? I feel like the latter is a much more accurate representation of how long one should expect to live if they make it to retirement age.

  5. Well, anything above zero looks great compared to about 0 years for practically stateless me (outside of my own savings at the cost of quality of life).

At best I can go with a petty crime to get some “retirement” and “social security” in a prison. In fact it’s a common practice in the region where I live.

  6. I’ll have to work until 67 or later. And maybe due to inflation I might never get to go on pension but will have to work part time to support my self – even with a healthy pension fund.

  7. All being said, i am looking at the life expectancy estimation with great concern and doubt.
You realize that the retirement age proposal is directly linked with estimated life expectancy.
    I really doubt the numbers.
Not to mention the fact that considering the life i am having, stress, pressure, lack of time etc. I doubt i will be reaching 5 years of retirement pension.
