On Friday, the new Federal Minister of Defence, Boris Pistorius (SPD), first ordered an examination of the stocks of Leopard tanks for possible delivery to Ukraine. A report now reveals that his predecessor Christine Lambrecht is said to have forbidden precisely this within the ministry only shortly beforehand.
Former Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht apparently banned an inventory of Leopard 1 and 2 tanks within the ministry against the advice of her house a week before her resignation. This is reported by ” Business Insider ” on the basis of several sources in the Ministry of Defence.
Lambrecht is said to have forbidden Leopard inventory in order not to put Scholz under pressure
According to the ministry, the possible reasons for the ban were supposedly to avoid putting Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) under additional pressure regarding the question of possible battle tank deliveries. The concern: If it had come out that the Bundeswehr was counting its operational tanks, this could have been interpreted as a willingness to supply tanks. This impression was supposedly to be avoided, especially since the Chancellor’s Office is said not to have issued a formal order to the Ministry of Defence to examine the matter.
Christine Lambrecht did not answer a question from Business Insider on Friday evening. The new Defence Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) had declared on Friday on the fringes of the Ramstein summit that he had ordered an inventory on the same day. The announcement had caused astonishment, as the topic had been discussed for months.
CDU foreign affairs expert Roderich Kiesewetter said he was dumbfounded that it was only the new defence minister who had ordered an inventory of available Leopard 1s and 2s in Bundeswehr and industrial stocks. “It is embarrassing and frightening that Germany is apparently only thinking of this barely a year after the start of the war.”
What could put him more under pressure than not knowing how many tanks he has???
fucking hate the SPD
I feel sorry for our German friends. In my simple mind this is a national security problem to not know for sure what is protecting you, and in what condition it is.
I am expecting this type of situation in my country Romania not Germany. This news really surprised me.
I am not surprised at all.If you live in Germany you see that she has done absolutely nothing to improve the stocks of the Bundeswehr DESPITE a big fucking war right next door.
She should have been kicked out after 2 weeks …not one year.
Classic WW3 prevention tactic from Germany.
What next? To burn all fire-fighting equipment to prevent fires from happening, because it’s the evil fire-fighters who profit from fires?
Peak absurdity.
She is Russian traitor.
Well that’s all about paperwork. It’s commonly know which numbers working and available. Its been covered by the press all the time.
Otherwise you get some springer dude writing “Germany prepares Leo delivery” and someone has to deny it than which leads to more chaos.
This seems rather a cheap try to divert attention, putting the blame of the predecessors, than an honest commitment to resolve a situation.
Welp, at least she resigned. Not the proudest moment for us Germans, tbh. I sure wish Bearbock and Habeck were in charge.
I was hopeful when Germany announced gigantic increase in defense spending.
But wtf did they spend it on? Consultants?
When the incompetent are in charge this is the shit we get. At least we know now that Germany itself doesn’t know how many leopards they have.
