  1. >He acknowledged that “getting regime change is hard”, citing the examples of Cuba, Venezuela and Iran, but said “that is where Russia is headed”.

    >He added: “Will there be regime change? I hope so.”

But Cuba, Iran, and Venezuela all persevered with their regimes in spite of the economic pain… I hope it will be different for Russia ofc, but the examples he gave aren’t inspiring.

  2. In all likelihood Russia’s main exports are going to be porn, escorts, mail order brides, “models” for Arab leaders and oil/gas for India and China.

  3. I don’t think there is anything to rejoice about, Putin with his megalomania will have ruined the lives of so many peoples, both, in Ukraine and in his own country.
The only good thing would be, if it hasted the end of this senseless war.

  4. And still, instead of using incredible amounts of resources they have to improve their lives, they’ll just try to drag the rest of the world to their pigsty standards.

  5. For many years, a key mantra of the regime has been “to get Russia back up from its knees” after the poverty and shitshow of the 1990s. There was enough happening in the cities to justify that it eventually happened under Putin for propaganda to work.

I can’t imagine how fucking long it’s gonna take to take Russia out of the gutter. For years there has been this incredibly negative view of Western institutions such as the IMF. What kind of measures would a new government have to take to get loans? Austerity measures would utterly destroy popularity of any government, there will be populists getting support, and once again there will be rhetoric about how “orc evil dumb russkies just want empire back” or something.

I can just imagine seeing a reddit post decades from now, a statistics map, and Russia would be in deep shit, and comments would be full of people gloating and making jokes about it. At least I’m old enough to recognize that at least something’s off. It’s depressing to theorize what kind of world my younger brother is gonna grow up into.

  6. Nothing in the article talks about poverty or how Russia will end up in extreme poverty.

But again this is the telegraph.
