It’s so you remember your desired setting.
The tip of the triangle shows you the setting.
its just a reminder of the latest setting
btw. you can clean it easily with a toothbrush
I think the ring is just a marker. You can turn it to remember what your default setting is if you temporarily put it higher or lower.
