  1. That’s very important. If we don’t make bold moves on the matter, the European Union will eventually have a bigger share of the Amazon rainforest than Brazil!

  2. In reality this will do near nothing about the deforestation in Brazil. Brazil is one of the countries from which Europe imports soy for animal feed. Brazil cuts their forests to grow soy. The soy produces european meat -> europeans still take part in the destruction.

    The reality is the rain forests are burning, that has a catastrophic effect on the wildlife in the region and will have a major impact on the whole world, but a burger is a burger and a burger trumps some forest and some monkeys dying with their babies.

    Humans do not have the capacity to care about things that don’t directly affect them, we just like to pretend we do. If we can pollute the whole world in the name of Wallstreets growth, we sure as hell are gonna burn the forests down for some burgers.
