My car was towed. I did not see the sign. Is it allowed to put only one sign? I was parked at the very last end.

  1. If you didn’t see the sign, I’m pretty sure you’re responsible.
If the sign wasn’t visible because it was obscured, then I’m not sure, ask a lawyer.

  2. Well i do see a sign for disabled parking space in 20 meters. So i’m not sure if it is necessary. But normally yes always 2 signs and must be registered at cityhall.

  3. nope needs to be 2 and at least placed 48 in advance of the starting time . if not the towing costs are to be payed by the one ordering the tow .

  4. Look this up on the website of your municipality. Just look up what the rules are when you’re trying to move and you want to place signs. If they weren’t strictly followed, you might have a chance at fighting this.

If your municipality thinks one sign is enough, that’s some serious bullshit but you’ll have a really hard time fighting this…

  6. I had something even more infuriating. I almost got towed but was down from my apartment just in time because they placed one of these in COVID crisis when we weren’t even allowed outside without a note from our parents or some shit. They placed it after my car was there and I still had to pay. They said I could get my money back but every call or email I made i got stonewalled by those fucking BX pig maffia.

  7. Usually these signs have only the arrow, up or down, and both are needed to indicate the no parking zone. The sign on the picture has the indication “20m”, so only one is needed – but this makes it easy to miss of course.

  8. Did you also get a ticket?

Check with the police if one sign is enough in this situation and check the permit of the parking prohibition.

If the signs have not been placed correctly and the police made a mistake by towing you without checking the permit, you might have a case to get your money back.

  9. Hey,

I had the same thing happening in Leuven last year, fought the ticket but no success.

The official response I got explained that the rule for the E32 signage is that if there is no board to signify the end of the parking prohibition, the no parking zone goes on till the next crossing. So an end of zone signage is not required for it to be legal (even though the police officer who came on site thought so, which is why I fought my ticket). So I’m afraid you may ‘op je kin kloppen’.

It’s an organized maffia, expect the towing fine on top of the GAS-boete. In leuven I first got the GAS-boete for 58€, which is already heavy, but I then received the towing fine a year later for around 150-180 euros, which imo is scandalous. But look up your local prices on the internet, they vary.

  10. you need to go the justice ask form him to pay, the reason ?

wel when you place boards like this the owner needs to take a picture when the parking place is empty sonhe can proof that he put it there a day before. Usually the owners don’t do it. Sorry for my English.

  11. If you want, lawyer up. Below are a few possible reasons, but I’m not a lawyer.

It’s possible just because they should use a blue background and white text on top of this parking sign or it is not valid.

It’s possible because not everyone can put the sign there and take the pictures of the present cars. Sometimes, a police officer is required to write the number plates, as this is someone with a clear mandate.

Do they have a measurement of the 20m and your car? Like a police statement? A picture?

Typically you will lose a lot of time and get a lot of frustration, but it’s not impossible to get your money back.

If you want a laugh, check this video from Joe Lycett. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2Gkiw7zpULo

    Good luck!

  12. Yes it’s allowed for short distances, see the specific laws underneath. It sucks but sometimes even if you can’t help it and didn’t do it on purpose, you can still be in the wrong.

  13. these ‘no parking’ signs have to be placed one week in advance.
    Look up the ‘politiereglement’.
If they were places the same day or even 3 days in advance they are not binding.

But you have to prove that they were not there in time…

  14. Ik gok dat beide vrachtwagens ongeveer 10 meter lang zijn. Als je achter de witte lichte vrachtwagen stond, heeft het bord geen betrekking op jouw wagen vanwege het onderbord.

  15. That’s why these poles are orange. They signal that you need to go over and have a look at them.

  16. Heh, I’ ve had a case once where my car was parked for a week somewhere they installed a brand new FORBIDDEN PARKING sign sometime in that week. I contested on that base but they said I’m supposed to check up on my car frequently when I’m parked in public. Bs.

  17. The sign with only one arrow facing up means that it goes until the end off the street, the sign with the arrows facing up and down simultanously means that it goes until the next sign

  18. if the distance isn’t on the sign.

here the sign says 20m beyond this point: no parking. if you are inside that distance, you get towed or the police can check if the license plate is registered to an address nearby so they can come knocking on your door first.

  19. The signs have to be put out 48h in advance. If you park between them anyway after they were put up, the towing cost is for you.

If there was a problem with their paperwork, if you parked before the signs were put out, if the signs were not correct (in this case their was no second plate and the display of the date was incorrect, should be a blue plate with with unremovable markings) the cost is theirs. If they put up the signs without giving notice to the police that the plates were placed and which cars were already parked there, they are paying for the tow.

Spoken by a general contractor who has already been responsible for people being towed and has had the police refuse to tow because a problem with the plates.

It won’t cost more than 300€. The police have made a process verbaal about this with a standaard doc. Ask them about it, if you want to spend a lawyer for 300€ give the police your version of the facts, but be sure that it is not just “I didn’t see the signs”, because that is a you problem and not a them problem.

  20. In theory you could be in your right and win this case. In practice, being towed means you’re screwed and you’ll have to pay to get your car back.

I don’t agree with it, but it’s far from the hill I want to die on.

  21. Did they placed the sign 48 hours in advance? If not, fight the fine. Ofcourse it’s not easy to prove the sign wasn’t there 48 hours before.

  22. “Dit moet minstens 5 werkdagen voor de effectieve bezetting worden aangegeven.”

Betreffende geen eindbord, niet verplicht gezien het einde samenvalt met het begin van een andere parkeerzone

“Het einde van de reglementering wordt evenwel niet aangeduid:

    in het geval voorzien onder c) hierna;

  23. Pro tip for everyone here: traffic signs related to parking have an orange post and backside. Look for them when you park somewhere.

  24. Yes because you have the distance written on the sign.

It sucks but they are almighty in this city about towing cars .

Happened to me on more occasion than I would have liked.

    Courage.

  25. In my street the also placed one “from 8:00-16:00”. I moved my car the night before and moved it back when I returned from work. The next day the sign was still there but now it said “from Monday to Friday”. I didn’t move my car again.
