This ‘unofficial credibility’ is this for ALL cases or just the ones to get mentioned in the news.
Whenever I see these single cases of some teenage girl dressed up to fake an (old enough) 18yo look. Who bedded a football player (for an example) and later discovered it was an unlawful act. I wonder, which part is the act? Yet, somehow, to make a mockery on the legal system, it all gets passed as factual and career damaging.
Real life cases, like for you and I, are not believed as much?!
This is BS. CID don’t work night shifts. That’s a job for uninformed officers.
The credibility of this article is ironically dubious
> “The thing is, Sarge, she’s already made one allegation of rape tonight so there’s no way I’m going out on my own to her house. I’ve got my own safety to think about.”
Yeah, the wording sounds heartless at best, but surely police officers don’t ever attend victims individually, do they? Especially male officers to female rape victims?!
So their complaint is that an SIO told them to investigate a line of enquiry that could disprove the allegation.
That is literally what you are supposed to do – the Police are independent investigations and by law they have to look at reasonable lines of enquiry that could damage the case, or support the suspects account as well.
If that line of enquiry is taken, and there is no undermining evidence after all, then it strengthens the case since you can detail it has been conducted and the complainants account still stands up to scrutiny.
Without knowing what this line of enquiry they are complaining of actually is how is anyone supposed to determine if they have a legitimate gripe or not.
“I was involved in a rape investigation in which a female senior investigating officer directed me to pursue a line of inquiry solely intended to undermine the victim’s first account so that we could close down the investigation before command had to divert significant resources to it.”
I’ve always thought police were supposed to investigate all sides not just go after evidence to convict somebody. If there’s evidence that points away from a crime or a suspect then it should be investigated properly. If there is evidence that suggests an allegation didn’t happen i think the police should investigate it. When they don’t, you end up with cases like that if [Liam Allen](https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/student-accused-of-rape-vows-to-sue-met-police-after-failure-to-disclose-text-messages-proving-his-innocence-a3721731.html?amp) who spent years accused of rape only for the police to reveal at the start of the trial that they had a load of text messages that proved his innocence!
The police do not have public consent to police. I’m sorry about all of the decent POs who do a great job, but we don’t know who you are and whether you are the bad ones or good ones.
Edit: obviously loads of coppers downvoting, but IDGAF. I wouldn’t trust you with my family, a lot of people feel the same. You need to get your house in order.
I understand where the police officer is coming from. These days men just have to lift a finger or look the wrong way at a lady (look at those stories about being “stared at on the tube”) to get accused of something and #metoo’d.
Honestly its not worth it.
It’s almost as if this Detective Sergeant doesn’t understand it’s their duty under the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act to follow all reasonable lines of enquiry. It’s a mind-boggling stupid thing to be complaining about in a blog
