because of its historical, cultural and economic history I suppose.
also we do speak flemish not dutch if you care to make the difference flemish is not the same like ostens, west vloams, t gents etc
(West)Flemish(at least it is in French Flanders) and Limburgish should be recognised as languages.

I don’t agree. The reason why Flanders is named after the County of Flanders is because Belgium, in its national symbolism, based itself on the Duchy of Brabant. And as Loon/Limburg was too small and irrelevant (and carved up between the Netherlands), only Flanders was left over to pick as identity for Dutch speaking Belgians to differentiate themselves with the de facto Francophone Belgian state.
As usual people in Antwerp and Brussels periphery think they are totally Flemish and ignore their own history. People from Limburg probably see the problem, but they are totally ignored and treated as second class like always. Their history can´t be told, because it would show their link to Liège, a city in Francophone Belgium. Imagine that!
I’m from East-Flanders and I do speak Flemish?
Sprekt vo uw eihen, ‘ksprekekik wel dehelik vloms.
To the greatest annoyance of my Dutch teacher when I arrived at high school and couldn’t even produce a correct ‘g’ or ‘sch’ sound (and then promptly got extra classes for a year). Apparently all my elementary school teachers had no issue with my enormously thick dialect (which I didn’t even knew I had until that one Dutch teacher..)

Kweetni wi matje, ‘t vlams is de sjoanste toale dat er bestoat. Aj jon dialect echt klapt verstoan de gebeurs je zeest ni
En kent nog verstoanboar getypt ook
We’re Belgian not flemish.
I frankly couldn’t give a fuck. We live on a napkin.
What i do recognise is how far both parts of the country have grown apart, and that shouldn’t be a bad thing.
The only real Flemings, by the modern definition, are people from Aalst-Ninove as it’s the only region that is officially Flemish but culturally and linguistically Brabantian.
Another reason for the Denderstreek to be recognized as its own province!
The thing that bugs me the most about this entire topic is that everyone is overly reductive about it to push their own political agenda. History is complex and multifaceted, with countless actors, each with varying motivations pertaining to different cultures and norms that span centuries. There are multiple reasons as to why the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium became to be known as Flanders, but everyone treats history like a buffet. Everyone hyper-focuses on the aspects that align with their ideology and downplay those aspects that don’t. Belgian nationalists hyperfocus on the Flemish nationalist nation building and downplay the historical significance of Flanders. Flemish nationalists do the opposite. Both are overly reductive and misleading.
We speak dutch bc of the nationalisation of schooling tv and radio
That’s our goverment text book deffinition collonising us
Evenso we have Brabant, flemish Brabant, Wallonian Brabant, Antwerpen wich used to be part of Brabant, Noord Brabant in the Netherlands
Also our Belgian flag Comes from the Brabant revolution during austrian times
We then took this flag again in our next revolution against the dutch
Belgium doesnt own all of Brabant
It’s like north Macedonia where Greece is pissed bc they use that name
