The mere thought of us going to war with France is completely and utterly insane to anyone in Germany today. Couldn’t ask for better neighbors ☺️
The prime example of politicians doing the right thing for their countries against the will of their respective populations.
If you asked the German and the French after the war, they would have happily continued their cenutry-old feud and nobody could have blamed the French for not wanting to even sit at the same table as Germany, the country that had brought so much pain, death and devastation over Europe *twice* within less than half a century. Including Germany into a framework of western countries has been proven as the absolutely right idea. Obviously it was also driven by mere self-interest, but approaching a former enemy like this takes balls.
