  1. This is really sad, unfortunately it has been my experiences of A&E too, if they don’t see you as immediately dying, patch up and get out.

  2. Is there a doctor in the house?

Im curious. Her amputations were due to meningococcal sepsis. She went to the hospital, they dismissed her concerns. She returned a couple hours later, and the severity was recognized.

Im not assigning blame. And she deserves the money regardless of fault- life is going to be hard enough.

But medically speaking, was the court right in agreeing amputations could have been avoided if her initial visit had a correct diagnosis?

Can 3hrs be the difference between completely successful antibiotic treatment and quadruple amputation with this disease?

  3. Hopefully the majority of the settlement will be used help the young girl and her family work towards building a happy future life for her.

  4. Sad story. Unfortunately there will be more cases like this as doctors continue to be forced to contend with unmablnageable patient loads and are pushed beyond breaking point. This is why medics deserve much higher pay than they’re currently getting. This is the type of consequence of making one wrong diagnosis amidst the chaos of an overcrowded A&E and discharging somebody earlier than they should be. The risk that something like this might happen from one wrong decision is somethjng that they must take on every single day and they should be paid accordingly with all made to support them via manageable workloads and safer work environments. But that requires investment so its not going to happen….

  5. Don’t like seeing the NHS making mistakes like this, but sorry, clearly people who should know don’t know and are fucking up people’s lives.

  6. 39 Mil is insane. She should definitely have a lifetime of care funded for her, this should be paid directly from the NHS to a private healthcare provider but then the money on top?

If you earned 100,000 for 50 years that’s 5 million pound. That would be a hugely generous estimate on loss of earnings

Her life life are care is going to cost 30+ million? Really? It sounds harsh as well but surely her life expectancy is going to be lower now

She should be made whole but that’s 39 million that could help a tonne of people in the NHS all going to one individual

  7. My mums friends daughter died of this. The daughter screamed in agony for the last few hours of her life. Deathly screams. The mum was never the same again.

  8. I think she would probably rather have her limbs back then the money. I know I would.Monumental fuck ups like this shouldn’t happen but then again we live in the UK where these “mistakes” are commonplace.

  9. Trust this sub to try and avert blame from the NHS when they failed to address a life threatening condition that caused a 4 amputations in a young girl. Even some people trying to argue it’s too much compensation. The person who sent her home should also be sacked. If a copper caused injuries like this due to negligence, they would be gone.

  10. I’m dealing with a less serious issue with my daughter at the moment where she might have permanent hearing loss in one ear. We took her to a doctor on boxing day who then referred her to a and e for suspected mastoiditis. Her ear was swelled up and sticking out. She was sent home with ear drops. Took her back to the doctor a week later after it hadn’t cleared up who referred her to a and e again where she was admitted and treated with IV antibiotics and had surgery to drain the ear. ENT and surgeons were asking why we didn’t bring her in sooner. We explained we did. I’m now considering legal action if her hearing is permanently affected.

  11. This sub has really jumped the shark. I saw some people say tories mps should be held accountable for murder for cutting dole, yet people here are saying the compo is too much, and it wasn’t the Dr’s fault.

  12. I hope the government learns from this settlement that the nhs needs more funding and staff so theres more time to properly diagnose things before this happens.

    Nah!! Just sell it!!!!

  13. >”Settlement will help provide the girl with the equipment, therapy and aids she needs and will help her live her most fulfilling life, despite what happened to her. She is brave and she is determined.”

I really hope it does its utterly tragic, there at least may be some prosphetic legs she can use so as to be mobile, and because she is still young I hope that she will benefit from cutting edge hand and arm prosphetic technology. Maybe even one day regain the sensation of touching something with her fingers.

  14. Those who made the diagnosis should go back to med school or have their medical license taken off them with all those warning flags they prescribed paracetamol?

  15. This is a problem with the NHS. The government are not using tax payers’ money to hire qualified professionals and provide quality care. This trust was obvioisly negligent beyond doubt. Those doctors that saw her first should be banned in their profession for destroying her life and robbing her off of her future.

  16. I had something similar. The Navy sent me to Derriford hospital for 2 impacted wisdom teeth removed.

I woke from the anaesthetic to a doctor with a clipboard saying “so, 3 wisdom teeth removed – how you feeling?” I informed him that I could tell all 4 had been taken out. In one go!

Thank fuck I wasn’t having a kidney taken out.

  17. my grandmother had a small fall nothing serious just a bit freaked out. Frimley park hospital had her dead in weeks. They starved and dehydrated the poor old girl to death. stole her food flowers and relatives gifts and left her for dead.

when i raised concerns about the fact she looked like a desiccated Egyptian mummy. The responses were entirely threatening and sinister. it wont go so well for granny if you kick up a fuss.

we have been skull f**** in to loving and protecting the nhs whilst inside the management do all they can to other the public in the minds of the PMC staff in NHS. whilst the lower orders are treated like performing seals and fed on shit.

    Divide and rule folks.
