Miggledy in historic 3rd term run to fuck over Bertie, voted in unanimously by 15 year olds
He couldn’t have run for president back when I was a kid and did it then? Too little, too late Miggledy!
If we give this man a 3rd and 4th term he’ll probably get us all a 2 day work week.
Man needs to president for life!
My 7 year old just said he’s thr best president in the world EVER!! 🙂
What a legend
Then lower the voting age to 15 and enjoy your profits bilbo higgins
I’m feeling Irish now, haha. I hope it actually comes to be for the sake of all the kids who study here.
Where was this when I was in school. Homework destroyed me. I’d spend the day at school, come home and spend another 4-5 hours doing my homework. I only did written homework too. I’d never do homework that was just learning off stuff in Irish class or reading a book in English class. I had no time.
Absolutely. Why don’t we give kids a break? They’re kids.
Ya the homework was always a load of shite. The real challenge is getting kids interested and keeping them listening. If you can do that they’ll learn plenty.
Rhetoric about completely scrapping homework aside, I do think there needs to be a discussion about how much homework kids get and the point at which it’s just counterproductive.
lets be honest during most of secondary school we would have had about 5/6 subjects per day on average and each teacher would have thought it reasonable to give what they expected would take 20-30 minutes homework. So as a baseline kids are getting 2-3 hours homework a night.
Now lets throw in some commuting time and an after school activity and some dinner and you have kids starting 2-3 hours homework at 7pm, finishing at 9-10. How is this considered acceptable? And this is just the normal case. What about the kids who’s home life isn’t perfectly conducive to having 3 hours quiet, what about kids who have to help out with a family business or on the farm or who have sick family members or even younger siblings to take care of?
Is this not just destroying families time together? Consider the kid who’s mother has cancer – are they really better off doing all the exercise problems at the end of chapters 14 and 15 of the maths book instead spending that time with their mother?
Is it not just stunting social development because kids don’t have time to go hang out with their friends after school?
Is it not killing opportunities to explore hobbies and learn outside of the curriculum?
I’m not in favour of completely doing away with homework as some tasks are actually better off being done alone and without the disruption of class changes etc – things like essay writing for English or History but how about a limit of 1 essay a fortnight across all subjects. that gives what 20 essays a year 5/6 a subject over the course of a year, more than enough to make meaningful improvements given time is now allowed to put in the necessary effort to improve. Kids have more time to think about and do the essay and struggling students have more spare time in which they can catch up.
I liked maths physics, tech etc in school – ended up doing maths in college. And I learned absolutely fuck all doing the homework assignments that wouldn’t have been learned a million times quicker if each class was split into a teaching and practical component with the teacher walking around and helping the students individually with their specific misunderstandings.
Imagine having homework as an adult. After your 9-5 you get to go home, have dinner and then do more work!
Basically the exact same except for kids
F**k that!
Homework is such a good idea, employers should give it to all workers. Unpaid of course, its for your benefit that they give it after all.
Abso-fucking-lutely
Genuinely the one thing that keeps students demotivated and reluctant to STUDY, is the sheer amount of homework that gets piled on them everyday.
If a student spends 7-8 hours in school, then 1-3 hours doing homework each day, where is the time to study, to talk to people, to enjoy your hobbies?
My solution when I was in school was to never do it, and just suffer through the weekly detentions and daily shout-ats. But no student should have to experience that, ever.
Can we stop posting links from the mirror?
I’m a teacher and I very rarely give homework. I will occasionally ask kids to finish off an extended piece of writing that we’ve been working on in class, but only after I’ve given 2-3 periods for it to be completed (generally the ones who still have a bit to finish off have been messing). The main thing I suggest is that they try to read regularly.
It cuts into leisure time, has no proven benefits, and is a pain in the arse to chase up. I expect senior pupils to revise for their exams, but I provide revision materials and don’t chase it – if they bring it in to be marked, fine. If I see no evidence of revision, I’ll check if they need help/flag it with parents. But there’s no point in setting hours of assessed additional work.
I whole heartedly support this man (even though as a retired American it cannot affect me). I have and have had a burning hatred of injustice (no matter how small) all my life, and it was sparked the very first time I was given homework.
“What’s this?” I thought. “Sure, they can force me to attend school, I understand that, but once I go home, they can’t tell me what to do!!!!”
I took a stand. I refused to do any homework. It was a matter of principal. I did well enough through all my courses that it never mattered. Until I was in 7th grade where homework counted as part of my grade, and I ended up getting an F in the first quarter of my science class. Finally, the system had worn me down and I had to give in and perform like the circus monkey they have always wanted me to be.
But a small glimmer of hope still burned deep in my heart that someday, someone with the vision and power to put an end to this horrendous practice would claw his way to the top of the pyramid, and succeed where I had failed.
Hurray!
Oh wait i’m 31. Damnit..
Back when I was in second class, which was a loooong time ago, I’d literally be finished my homework at 9:00 each evening. The whole thing contributed to a whole cycle of depression which affected my academic performance drastically.
Ironically, I started doing a whole lot better in school when I didn’t have so much school work.
Homework was so stressful. 17 year old me cried once as I’d forgotten to write some post essay for English. I’d already done maths, science, geography and history essays and whatnot. Christ I can feel that feelings all over again thinking about it.
100% agree. Research has shown children,in particular primary aged children, benefit more from play and social time with peers and family compared to doing homework. Play is the main way children learn and we shouldn’t be trying to take away from that.
Primary level should completely do away with homework. Second level maybe teachers should assign a set amount of homework/tasks that need to be complete within a month or two. The student can then practice prioritising and managing deadlines, as is needed in 3rd level and the workforce. Hours of homework every night is pointless. My secondary school stated we should aim for at least 3 hours a night. Considering I left at 8 and got off my bus at 5, my school day wouldn’t end until at least 8. That’s ridiculous for a 14yr old
I agree 100%. They’re in school long enough without needing to “bring their work home with them”.
Why don’t the teachers have a sort of end of day test or something to see if the kids retained the information from the day and leave it at that.
I got so fed up of the 3-4 hours I’d have to spend on homework every night. I broke the system though. We used have 2 breaks in the day, one at 10:45 for 15 mins and one at 1pm for 45 mins. I used start (and sometimes finish) my early subjects homework during the first break, and do my other bits of homework during lunch. Teachers used to give out shit to me for doing it, and other classmates used to bully me for “being a swat”.
The only homework I’d usually have is the last 2 subjects, whatever they may be.
Don’t even get me started with the absolute weight of the backpack that pretty much broke my spine dragging it home everyday.
It was the only tolerable way to get through school. Do not miss the place whatsoever. Kip.
Fuck
That was MY plan for when i become president
If this gets passed ill have no platform to run on 🙁
I’m a secondary school teacher and the comments here are largely against homework. This is contrary to what I’ve encountered in reality though. Our school has a policy that encourages teachers to regularly give homework… why? Because the parents association pushed for that policy. The parents association also pushed for more consistent tests..so now we have midterm tests as well as house exams at Christmas and summer. The majority of parents at parent teacher meetings express concern that their kid is not doing enough, rather than doing too much. And in case you’re thinking I work in a private school or something, I don’t, I work in a DEIS school in a city.
