  1. > .@LancsPolice do an amazing job, but I’m sure their time is better spent investigating serious crime which impacts on my constituents. The vast majority of people would think that politically motivated complaints about about a seat belt are not good use of frontline resources.

    More whataboutism whataboutism.

  2. From the feed:

    > **Lancashire MP criticises police for investigating PM not wearing seatbelt**

    > A Lancashire MP has criticised his local police force for looking into whether Rish Sunak broke the law when he did not wear a seatbelt while in a car.

    > As we’ve been reporting, during a trip to Lancashire yesterday Mr Sunak was filmed in a car while not wearing a seatbelt.

    > Lancashire Police say they are now “looking into” the matter.

    > Scott Benton, the Conservative MP for South Blackpool, said he is “sure” police time would be “better spent” on things aside from a potential breaking of the law by the prime minister.

What exactly is there to investigate? The guy filmed himself in a moving car without wearing a seatbelt, he admitted in public that he didn’t wear a seatbelt, he apologised in public for not wearing a seatbelt.

  3. If you or I get caught speeding or not wearing a seat belt, we will be fined.

But if you re a Tory it suddenly becomes *a waste of police time*.

I fully expect this to be dropped by Lancashire police, it will not be *conducive to the public good* or some other such nonsense.

Lancashire police know who holds the purse strings for their funding.

  4. I can think of lots of offences that the Police look into that I consider a waste of time however we’re told “The law is the law” and so that should also be the case for those who reside at number 10.

  5. Not time wasting, the guy wasn’t wearing a belt and needs the correct punishment, can’t wait for him to no longer be PM

If this was an civilian the police will be all over it

  6. He is not above the law, but the fine won’t mean anything to him or anyone with that kind of wealth, fines should be proportioned to how much wealth you have, IMO.

  7. His second fixed penalty notice now. And yes I was fined for not having a seatbelt whilst moving my car at a request of the police, so not sure why I should have to pay 75 quid for a silly mistake (which i admit!) but he’s above the law

  8. What is there to investigate?
It’s clearly him, the car is driving in the road, there’s no seat belt….

  9. Police are absolutely wasting time investigating this issue. The crime is obvious n PM should just own up the maximum punishment for such crime n stop this time wasting

  10. The fine will be fuck all in the grand scheme of things. The police will be doing their job, and the PM will be showing he isn’t above the law, which most people seem to think he is. Why are they making such a deal of this. Just fine the twat, and fucking twat, just pay the fine, and let’s all move on with our utterly shit lives.

  11. They want it to not be unusual for PMs to receive fines in office – they have to look like they’re annoyed but they’re really just making breaking the law in office no longer shocking.

  12. What a fucking joke this government is. Our PM is about to be a fucking repeat offender we need a general election now.

  13. It is an offence and the government want the police to investigate offences again. You cannot complain when they do their job properly just because they find you guilty and not someone else. I’m sure Sunak would agree that if you cannot do the time, do not do the crime. It makes no difference if that person is the PM or not.

  14. They’ve got the public looking at these little infringements so that they can slide those billions away to, you know PPE contracts and other old school tie connections. Smoke and mirrors, and ho hum another day in politics.

  15. This shouldn’t have taken the police so long and would have been an easy small PR win considering how awful a showing they have had lately.

They could have issued the fine on the same day and put out a quick statement.

Anything longer and it is wasting police time since its an easy case.
