I don’t know the full history the deletion of old lines but if you could “revive” one or create a new one where would you do it ?
Maaseik – anywhere, it’s atleast an half hour drive till the first station where I live and no free parking in genk when you are there. Shitty situation
Nivelles – Ottignies.
It’s a pain in the neck to travel between thèses cities by public transport.
Landen – Jodoigne – Ottignies
Landen – Hannut – Éghezée – Gembloux
I would like lines that connect to neighbouring countries
Read it and weep: de spoorlijnen die we vroeger hadden, kijk maar naar de kaartjes onderaan de pagina
Just make it so that not all trains need to go through the 3 stations in the Brussels centre
That way a delay in these stations doesn’t fuck up the entire schedule in the rest of the country.
Gewoon heel noord Limburg langs de Nederlands grens af Jongeuh.
You guys have trains?
Hamont – Weert. The tracks are already there…
Charleroi Central – Brussels South Charleroi Airport
A little train in the Antwerp Zoo, for the kiddies.
I know they are planning to build a tram, but it would be good to have one now already, parallel to A12. It is mind boggling that we have a direct train between Antwerp and Brussels and all the other cities in between are ignored. I live in Willebroek and it takes me 20 minutes to get to A12 because so many people are commuting to Brussels/Antwerp. It’s honestly ridiculous that it takes 70 minutes by car and almost 120 minutes by public transport to get to Schuman roundabout, even though it’s barely 35 kms away from from me…
* Build a true high speed line between Brussels and Antwerp (the shitty typical belgian compromise solution that is the 25N line is kinda sad)
* Cross country connections and services (For example Gent-Terneuzen, Hamont-Weert, Hasselt-Maastricht…)
* Upgrade the 6 track Brussels-midi Brussels-nord corridor or provide a bypass for IC trains.
* A north-south connection in German speaking Belgium / Ardennes could be nice
Also, I’d like to see some trains run from 9 pm – 6 am in my area (doesn’t need to be frequent, just *some* service at all…)
Brussels – Wavre
Dinant – Givet
Brussels – Luxembourg but with high speed trains
Reestablish abolished lines: Hasselt – Maastricht; Hasselt – Neerpelt; Neerpelt – Weert; Neerpelt – Eindhoven (this latter one, unfortunately will never be possible again).
Thalys Liège-Luxembourg-Strasbourg
Not sure if it would help anyone else, but personally I’d love it
Something something a connector to Eindhoven (NL) (and s’Hertogenbosch? or Nijmegen?) via Leuven or Hasselt.
Or something like Brussel-Zuid, Leuven, Hasselt, Maaseik, Roermond (NL), Venlo (NL), Nijmegen-Centraal (NL), Arnhem-Centraal (NL).
More plausibly, Gent-Sint-Pieters – Geraardsbergen – Mons (*there’s actually two omnibuses, but they are desynced, you need to wait 30-40 minutes in Geraardsbergen – if they were synced it’d be faster than going through Brussels even though these are omnibuses*) – although perhaps that is because the Mons-Brussels connector is terribly slow, due to stopping in a bunch of places and generally driving at low speed.
Extend the Blankenberge line 500m into the Northsea
Train from Maastricht to Hasselt
Knokke – De Panne
Bastogne – Arlon or Bastogne – Namur
Because it’s a shame that a city of 16k inhabitants in the middle of nowhere is inaccessible by train. The trip by bus is a pain.
Also, Bastogne is a center for tourism and already has a (non functioning) train station, so there is a case for it.
Bastonge 😭
Leuven – Geel (or many places in the Kempen really): So weird how bad this connection is.
Turnhout – Tilburg it used to exist but it got scrapt in the 70’s or 80’s for some reason
The “Iron Rhine”, a more direct link for the transport of goods between the Port of Antwerp (and Zeebrugge) and the German Ruhr.
More tracks dedicated to freight trains.
One freight train is the equivalent of about 50 trucks. It makes a difference during rush hours.
Hasselt-Maastricht via maasmechelen.
Why isn’t west-Limburg (be) connected with east-Limburg (nl)?
I live in Limburg and its hard to believe that there is no train to Maastricht or Eindhoven …
Fucking Limburg maybe? We ain’t got jack shit.
Any line north south in Limburg. There is no real way to do this with public transport now.
Dendermonde and Aalst
Hasselt – Maastricht going way around via Liege is a waste of time and mobility. And a good connection to Antwerp.

Source : [https://trainmap.belgiantrain.be](https://trainmap.belgiantrain.be) You can also check the running trains.
In the past there used to be a lot more [lines](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_des_lignes_de_chemin_de_fer_de_Belgique#/media/Fichier:Railway_belgium_1932.jpg).

Belgium is remarkably well covered by rail lines (second place for track coverage per sq km in Europe behind only Switzerland ([source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_rail_transport_network_size))), so there are not that many obvious gaps in coverage. Still, some possible improvements:
* Build a true high speed line between Brussels and Antwerp (the shitty typical belgian compromise solution that is the 25N line is kinda sad)
* Cross country connections and services (For example Gent-Terneuzen, Hamont-Weert, Hasselt-Maastricht…)
