Just wondering why there is such a low uptake of the second booster?
Lower in healthcare than the general public as well.
Any explanations welcome.
Are people not worried anymore or reluctant?
I didn’t get the booster because I got blasted by the real thing twice in 2022.
A lot of people are sick with various illnesses right now, and you aren’t supposed to take the vaccine when ill. I’m sure that’s preventing a decent chunk of people from getting the shot.
They waited so long to offer it to the under 50s, lots (including myself) never knew they’d changed the policy and we could book.
There no talk of it at all amount friends or work colleagues.
1. People aren’t testing as much or antigens aren’t as accurate as they were. People don’t know when they last had the virus. That’s off putting as we were told you had to wait 3 months or whatever it was.
2. As a woman it consistently fucks with my period. This isn’t something that was studied or reported prior to receiving them and only reported and investigated afterwards as per fucking usual with women’s health. My periods are now on a shorter cycle since the vaccines forced them out of their normal cycle. I could probably schedule the vaccine to coincidence with my period but it makes it an awful heavy and painful one, and couple that with being sick from it 🙅♀️
3. If I get sick from the vaccine it comes from my own certified sick leave. I’d have to get a doctor’s note or use up my three uncertified days a year/6 in two years max. If I get the virus I get 5-7 days paid coronavirus leave.
Poor messaging, I (30) didn’t even know we were able to get it
Because people have been infected several times … That’s at least as good as any booster. In fact you explicitly are told to wait 4 months after infection before getting a booster.
Was planning on getting it and got hit with the real thing. So that’s me ruled out for 4 Months.
I was pretty reluctant on getting it as I have put down a few bad days after the last booster of severe night sweats , shivering , light headedness, fatigue . The booster actually had a more severe shorter lasting impact than the real thing .
6 month waiting period after having COVID and pretty much everyone had COVID in November/December.
Wonder if it’s anything to do with having to wait six months since having COVID and so many people had it over xmas
Vaccine exhaustion.. If that’s such a thing. I’ve had covid twice. Had three vaccines. The vaccine reaction was worse than having covid but possibly because of the vaccine. I’ll take my chances at this point.
Got a heart arrhythmia after each shot that lasted two weeks making me feel anxious as, ended up having to go for ECG and was told it was from the vaccine and other people are experiencing similar symptoms.
Im low risk and thankfully haven’t had covid but I’m not taking anymore vaccine
Delayed rollout to under 50s signalled to the population that it isn’t important. No other explanation for a nation with a 90%+ uptake previously.
Because everyone’s got the real feckin thing
I got covid before the booster then forgot about it… Then got covid again
I’m 39. Got a text before xmas from the HSE telling me to go in fir my 2nd dose. Took time off work and went in. When I got there, I was told it was a mistake and I couldn’t have it. Got Covid for the first time over xmas, so now I have to wait a while
Didn’t know it was available?
Don’t need it to get into a pub
Because the vaccines fucked me up more than actual covid
Nowhere was doing them for my age group when I needed one and then I got a horrific dose of covid and felt like I was drowning in my own lungs coughing up fluid.
They made an absolute balls of the roll out.
Interesting thread consensus vs prior to the first roll out.
The main reason people in my age group got it was to stop spreading it, but it doesn’t do that so there’s no real point to get boosters.
I’m not anti vaccine, but I felt so unwell after my first two. I’m talking violently ill and I don’t have time to be sick right now
Because it’s not needed
After I got the first 2 shots whenever I got sick throughout 2020 and early 2021 I was almost dying every time with how bad it was. The vaccines fucked up my immune system. Once it worked it’s way out of my system whenever I got sick it was back to just a bit sick for a day or 2 and I was perfect again so no way am I ever getting another.
This might not be popular but I put it down to people being a lot more sceptical of these vaccines than they were when they initially came out. Maybe that’s just my experience. I know people who got their double dose initially who aren’t keen on getting any more purely because they’re concerned about any side effects of it.
I often wonder if access to a social life wasn’t dependent on getting the vaccine a couple of years ago would people have taken it in such high numbers?
It’s not mandatory. There is your answer.
The truth is the government stopped “forcing” people to get it- we can now live normal social lives (accessing pubs, restaurants, airports etc) without it. Most people have now had COVID, many more than once- a lot of people prefer the risk of COVID to the risk/inconvenience/side effects of getting the vaccine again.
Maybe because it probably doesn’t work and fucked me up WAY more than Covid itself. Sorry if people find that offensive

Not worried and no longer being pushed
