  1. I always thought that when HMRC sends you a fine or tax bill, there is no “Agree or Disagree”, you just have to pay it. Do politicians get to play by another set of rules?

  2. >It is understood HMRC applied a 30% penalty to the £3.7m, bringing the total due to £4.8m.

30% is a pathetic amount, its theft FFS, it should at least be double, but thats the difference, poor people ‘steal’ objects whereas rich people ‘hide’ money, this needs to change, this man did not ‘hide’ money he stole it, and he has form, he tried to charge us to heat the radiators in his fucking stables.

And this from the government were handing out jail sentences for stealing bottles of water during the 2011 riots.

  3. So the former chancellor didn’t pay the right tax, the current PM has, in his last two government roles, received an FPN…

Not surprising from the party who coined ‘breaking the law in a specific and limited way’

  4. I’m sure he is very sorry for the oversight and will never do it again.

He, and any other politician in his shoes, would do the same in a heartbeat if he could. We need to close such loopholes and make it so that any MP caught not paying the correct amount of tax is sacked and barred from standing as an MP again. A zero tolerance approach is not asking much from our elected representatives.
