  1. On 8 August 2020, a major brawl broke out on Blankenberge beach between youths and police. Five Brussels people involved will have to answer to the Bruges court on Monday.

This is what Het Laatste Nieuws writes. Five young people from Brussels were involved in the big brawl on the beach in Blankenberge on the hot summer day. It was very crowded at the time, but because of corona rules, the police still wanted to keep their distance. There was a violent response to this. Around 5 pm, all kinds of objects, including parasols and deck chairs, flew around. About 50 young people from Brussels were involved in the brawl. The police eventually intervened with more than a hundred officers. Nine of them were slightly injured.

A total of 17 youths were arrested that day. Three of them were, two days later, brought before the investigating judge in Bruges on suspicion of armed recalcitrance and deliberate beating and wounding. They remained detained. A week later, a fourth man from Laken was arrested. Another, juvenile suspect was sentenced to community service by the juvenile court. None of the other juveniles are currently still in jail.

Following judicial investigations by the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office, five suspects will finally have to appear before the Bruges correctional court on Monday. They are Dave B. (21), Alseny D. (20), Moise B. (23), Mame N. (21) and Theofilo P. (21). They are also said to be members of Brussels youth gangs. Several police officers will take civil sides at the trial.
