Police ‘looking into’ video of Rishi Sunak not wearing seatbelt

  1. Investigators (a team of ten) 30 minutes after the report:
    > “Oh, look, a video he recorded while not wearing a seatbelt.”

    > “Oh, listen; he’s admitting not wearing a seatbelt.”

Police force spokesman, 6 months and £100,000 later:

    > “We have looked into this matter and after a thorough, long and expensive investigation by our crack team of dedicated detectives we have come to the conclusion there is not enough evidence to forward this to CPS for prosecution.”

    > “However, to show our commitment to fairness and impartiality, we have sent an advisory letter to the prime minister accompanied by a road safety leaflet.”

  2. This guy‘s supposed to be running the country and he can’t even sit in the back of a car without cocking it up.

  3. I know this won’t be it, but wouldn’t it be hilarious if this is the straw that broke the camels back?

  4. I suspect the Tory party and Govt. love this type of story and will fuel it for all it is worth.

It is so trivial and they will happily see it supercede vastly more important political matters, that will be pushed lower down in news and social media columns.

  5. But they won’t look into your house getting robbed even though you have video evidence clearly showing the perpetrators faces in the act.

  6. I. Don’t. Care.

It was stupid but the police are overstretched as it is. Go fight some real crime.

When did the police start investigating crimes based on “upvotes”?

  7. The real question is whether the police would investigate if this was a video of a general citizen not wearing his seatbelt.

  8. This is surely an intentional ploy to dilute the list of concerns raised about him, and skew the focus from much more egregious things he and his government have been responsible for. A distraction, to lose focus on the real issues.

When you search his name this comes up instead of the litany of other shocking failures of duty as the pm. Who cares about a seatbelt what about the tax evasions and tax avoidance of his own family and members of his party? What of the antisemitism in his party and contempt or indifference towards anyone who is not in their little 1 percent group? What about thre lack of action to kick out those who stole public taxpayer money during the covid chaos, or failure to negotiate fair terms with strikers? What about the decision to restrict liberty and freedom to protest, freedom to choose to withdraw labour, they are turning the working class British people into slaves for them and thier overlords. They are playing a very stupid game. Johnson hasn’t been working for months now, has anyone noticed? Has it made a difference? What does that tell you about the real value of this lot in running the country? They are doing nothing to protect the quality of life for the rest of us, the ones who actually do meaningful work, that keep the British Isles running.

    Don’t get distracted.

  9. He must realise that every ‘public’ appearance he makes will be scrutinised to the nth degree to find fault.
If this was a politician we liked, it wouldn’t make the news

  10. What should happen is that he is given a £500 fine immediately and then he stands up in PMQs and takes a beating from Labour over this. The media will run a few news cycles on it then move on and forget about it all.

What will probably happen is he won’t apologise and there will not be a fine issued until a stupidly long and expensive investigation has concluded. In the next PMQs Labour will give him a beating over this and the SNP will say its strengthens the case for independence. The media will run several news cycles and dig up everything he has done wrong during his driving career including the time he parked in parent and child space at Tescos while he was on his own.

Reddit will respond in its usual level headed way with half the comments discussing Tory corruption, brexit, non-dom status, taxes and PPE contracts. The other half will go on about taxi drivers not wearing them, mid lane hoggers, climate change, US seatbelt laws and how they always wear a seat belt even if they are sat on their sofa in the living room.

  11. Following Boris’ fines while in office you would think they would focus on not screwing up the basics of being a law abiding citizen, wouldn’t you?

  12. I honestly don’t understand why people dont wear seatbelts. Did they not see all those seatbelt PSAs? Like especially if you’re in the back of a car, you’re likely to kill the person in front of you.

  13. Who fucking cares if he wears a seatbelt or not? It’s the driver’s responsibility to ensure everyone wears a seatbelt anyway.
